DHCP Troubles

The other day I was running some spysweepers on my sisters' computer, and when I was done, it wouldn't connect the the internet anymore. So I tried renewing the IP (I have my D-Link set up for DHCP) but it says can't renew the ip address. Strange, never had this problem before. So I set the computer as a static address in my router and then enter the info manually in the IP protocol of the net connection. This does not work either. I'm kinda lost now. One thing i did notice though, when I set the computer to use DHCP the network it connects, or tries to, is 169.x.x.x where my home network is 192.x.x.x. Any insight at all would be extremely appreciated.

Oh and out of frustration, I also tried a system restore, and I looked through the spyware to find something that might look like it would mess with the network properties, but to no avail.

Are you sure your setting up the network connection right. That 169 is a private ip address scheme when the pc can't find a dhcp server. I would restart my router, then do an ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew. Make sure your network cables and connections are all plug in, maybe something got knocked loose. You can also do a repair the network connection.

I just seen where you are configuring the address in your router. I don't have a dlink but I don't see why you have to do that. I would delete that entry, all you need to do for static is just configure your network connection ip address, make sure you have the right subnet mask, and enter the router ip address as the default gateway and the router ip address for the preferred dns server. You shouldn't have to enter anything into your router.

That happened to me before cleanning the files system of one of my clients. Do a search for WinsockFix (in Google) download it and run it . Then release and renew your Nic Card and try again to connect.

to me it sounds like spysweeper removed something that was necessary for your ethernet card to work (it does happen). most of these programs do have an undo/restore function, so you might want to try going through the log and finding out what's missing.

That's why I suggested Winsokfix, he will be able to repair the Winsock stack with that.
