I guess from all of the commercials that are on tv, DHL is trying to get into the local delivery market. Well I've just had my first experience with them and they suck. I was supposed to have a package delivered yesterday, and according to their website, it was delivered to my receptionist with the last name Boylan. They even have a signature for it. Unfortunately I do not have a receptionist at my house, and neither one of my next door neighbors has that last name either.

I tried calling their customer service, but half the time I don't get through because their lines are full or something. When I finally got through yesterday, the person was very apologetic that I didn't get the package and said that she would open a case to find out where it was delivered. Someone would call me back by 5pm today. I asked them if the driver would leave a note if the package was left with a neighbor. She said she had no idea, I guess I am supposed to use my spider sense to find out where my package was delivered to.

Well this afternoon, I still hadn't heard from them, and although I wanted to give them till 5pm, I figured I'd call em up and harass them anyways. Well of course their stupid ass phone system hung up on me twice, but I finally got through. Guess what? No one opened a case on my package! So now they are trying to contact the local office directly. I should hear back by 4pm.

FedEx for me, my local office is great.

EDIT - Ok so I just got off the phone with them, this gets wierder and stupider. The DHL guy delivered my package to my local POST OFFICE?!?!?! And they are supposed to deliver it to my house. Why the hell would the post office accept the package, and why the hell would the delivery guy send it to the post office? I guess we'll see when I get the mail today.

YMMV with ANY courier.

I've used DHL for the past year two ship hundreds of packages with only two problems...both solved quickly.

For your local office yes, but I was dealing with their corporate office when I called their number, they should have something better in place. A lost package is one thing, but promising to open up an inquiry into finding it, and then not doing it is unacceptable.

It was a hard drive from Outpost.com, I called them up too to let them know about my experience. They said if I haven't heard back from DHL within 24 hours that they would send out another one. Now that's customer service.

DHL frequently delivers to the PO who then in turn lets the PO deliver it. I don't know why they do that but it seems to happen a lot on my residential deliveries. I go FedEx/UPS all the way.

I believe DHL bought out Airborne Express a few months ago. I used to work for them for a couple of years. You must of gotten some retard the first time. They usually do a good job.

That must be a bitch when people try to track their packages and it says it has been delivered and signed for and they haven't actually received anything. Somehow I think they need to work out the kinks in their system, and upgrade their phones to handle the volume of calls they must get about this issue.

My favorite delivery story is when we ordered 2 brand new 6509s from Cisco. (each were about $100,000 routers) So we had over $200,000 of equipment. Cisco hired a mom & pop carrier to deliver these....they delivered them to the right university, but to the wrong building. Did they bother to check? No...they just unloaded them on the dock and drove off without getting signatures or anything. So there was $200,000 sitting on a dock that could have been lifted into a pickup truck pretty easily. MORONS!

It is delivered to the Post Office if the shipping is via DHL@Home. DHL and USPS have a collaboration in that the package is transmitted on trucks to a local DHL hub, then delivered through via the USPS. I've had this service with packages from Allposters.com and Amazon.com

More info on the service:

http://www.dhl-usa.com/USSvcs/...eliveryServices/AtHome
DHL has partnered with the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) to create a new service designed for business-to-residence shippers who desire a secure, cost-effective shipping solution. Shipments are picked up by DHL and delivered directly to your customers by the local post office.

Features and Benefits

An efficient service for shipments from businesses to U.S. residential locations, including P.O. boxes
Standard delivery within 2 - 4 business days, Deferred delivery within 2 - 7 business days
Shipments up to 70 lbs.
Door-to-door visibility and tracking

If this is indeed the case (which it REALLY seems like), maybe you should take a look at the DHL services page before you start ranting If it says DHL @ Home on your tracking page (right below shipment detail), you could have easily clicked on it and saw what the service is about.

That being said. I could start a thread saying "UPS sucks" or "Fedex sucks" and you'd find the same kind of responses.

One time I ordered something through DHL. It was Doom 3! OMG WTF LOLZ! Unfortunately, it never, ever came. At first I was understanding but after it was six days overdue I began to get very angry. I called them up and I found out that the following went down:

1. Delivery attempt: Oh noes, wrong address!
2. Delivery attempt: Oh noes, we don't even try to deliver it this time, we just let it sit on the frickin' truck all day.
3. Delivery attempt: Wait no there was no delivery attempt on day three of the overdueness.
4. Delivery attempt: Oh noes we're too stupid to fix the wrong address even though we know it's wrong!
5. Delivery attempt: LOLZORZ there is no delivery attempt. And there won't be for three more BUSINESS days (double tee eff question mark).

I call them up and get this crap and they say they'll find out why they suck because I say "I want to know why your compnay is so damn inept." Well they said they'd get back to me by four o'clock that day (which was a good three or so hours) but they never did. So I called the people I ordered from initially (outpost.com) and said "I won't sign for it and I'm not gonna pay so you just better take it back and charge DHL the cost of shipping. They said "okays" and I said "that's good dudes" and I went to Target and was not disappointed. Doom 3 was finally mine. Whoo doggy. LOLZORZ.

(All the stupid slang and the unnecessary plurarls were just added for emphasis because DHL is so unbelievably crappy that you need to really drill it in with bad grammar. I mean really.)

EDIT: I forgot to mention that their site which you use to track the progress of your package was incredibly screwed up. They claim to have attempted delivery several days before they claim to have picked up the package in the first place from outpost.com's warehouse. This of course makes no sense at all to even the most insanely retarded children but, of course, DHL says that they have some special system of scanning that makes it so. What makes me even more mad is that they think this ridiculous set-up is somehow "good" customer service.

Unfortunately, it says DHL Ground on my tracking page. Heck, when I talked to DHL today, the girl said she had no idea why they would have sent it to the PO. You would think that DHL's own customer service people would know about their own products.

Here's my tracking number. 63452144674 Check for yourself, it specifically states DHL GROUND.

Like I said earlier, DHL screwed up in every which way possible in this scenario.

1. Said it was delivered, but it wasn't.
2. Misrepresented that it was DHL Ground when it wasn't, hence sent to the PO.
3. Said they would research my case, but they didn't.
4. Their phone lines suck since I get hung up on every other time I call.
5. None of the customer service people knew anything about their own services. Had the customer service person just told me that it was sent DHL Home and should go through USPS, that would have been the end of it, but evidently their customer service people are morons since neither person I talked to knew anything.
