So I ordered a Canon 20D to replace my stolen Canon Digital Rebel from Dell. Got them to apply the 10% discount on Digital Cameras even though the 20D is specifically excluded! Wooohooo
Anyways, they shipped it DHL Ground on Tuesday. The only good thing about it was it arrived very quick. It got to the local warehouse on Wednesday morning at about 8am.
This is where the problems begin. The package doesn't make it on the truck for Wednesday ... Ok, understandable, it was shipped ground anyways.
Thursday rolls around and its on the truck. They place a note in the tracking stating that delivery was attempted at 1pm and that I needed to call them.
I call them at about 1:15p to find out what the problem is. After being put on hold for about 10 minutes a rude CSR answers the phone and as I tell him that it says a delivery was attempted, he interrupts me and puts me back on hold saying I need to talk with the attempted delivery person. 5 minutes later he answers again asking what I want ... I explain that he spoke with me earlier and put me on hold for the attempted delivery guy. He puts me on hold again for a minute, and returns saying the attempted delivery guy isn't here. He takes my airbill number and tells me they couldnt find my house. Couldn't find my house? wtf, my house isn't that hard to find and UPS/FedEx never seem to have any problems. I should note that this is the 2nd time DHL (back then it was Airborne Express) couldn't find my house. Maybe I should have expected it. In any case, he tells me that he'd page the driver and have him re-deliver it with the directions I provided.
I get home from work at about 4:00p to find no package delivered. Give them till 5pm and call up to find out whats going on. Wait on hold for another 10 minutes to speak with someone and find out that the package is back in the warehouse and will be delivered on Friday! Again, wtf? So I tell him to hold the package for me, and I'll pick it up.
I get there, and the person in front of me tells me that its going to be awhile because only one person is working. Its finally my turn and the lady runs into the back to find the package. 20 minutes later she comes back and says she found it ...
Jeez! The only good thing about the DHL service is that it arrived at the warehouse in 1 day. However, if I had waited to it to be delivered, it would be Friday before it actually made it here, possibly Monday if the guy got lost again.
Maybe its just the local DHL warehouse thats all messed up, but I was extremely underwhelmed with their service. Its a shame that Dell uses DHL as their main shipper because I'll be thinking twice about ordering from Dell in the future.
Anyone else have horror stories about DHL? I know I've heard a bunch from UPS and FedEx, but so around here at least .. both UPS and FedEx deliver things on time and with no problems. If its a signature required and I'm not home ... it never takes more than a few minutes to retrieve my package from their warehouse.
