A couple days ago my DI-604 router started to not allow me view any websites. I've tried reseting it to its factory defaults, updating the firmware, following it's instructions on how to get it to work correctly using Earthlink DSL but to no avail. I don't know what else to do. Should I open ports? Disable firewalls? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Windows 2000
Speedstream 5360 modem
DI-604 router
Earthlink DSL
Using the router's PPPoE.

If looking at the Host file result in no solution. (rw pointer).

Take a look at D-Link site, and make sure that you have the recent firmware on the Router.

In addtion can rarely occur due to problematic Modem.

Do you have, or can you get, a 2nd computer hooked up to the router? That would help to isolate where the problem is. I find it a little bit hard to believe that it is the router that is blocking you, especially if you have reset it to factory defaults. Some routers do have these "family friendly" features or separate software that block sites. But, unless you have accidentally turned on such features, my guess would be the pc or the isp or the modem. But, stranger things have happened.

I currently have 3 other computers connected to the router and all of them have the same problem.

I'm pretty sure the problem is with my router, because I unpluged my main computer from the router and plugged it directly into the dsl modem, and my internet worked perfectly. When I plugged it back into the router I was being blocked from certain sites. I also tried this experiment with another computer and the same results occured. So the problem is not my ISP or my PC(s), and I don't believe it could be my modem, unless the router doen't like my modem (?)

I don't have any filters turned on, domain, url or otherwise. Uh, I'm not so sure about the firewall. There appears to be a firewall on because it's factory default, and I've tried to turn it off, but it just gives me and IP error and won't save the settings. I'm guesssing that maybe that's my problem, the firewall is blocking me?

If you need anymore info let me know.

Weird. The only thing I can think of is to try a totally different router, and see if that gets you anywhere. Maybe borrow one or get something you can return.

Does your service use PPPOE?

If it does, did you set the Router to PPPOE, and uninstalled the PPPOE software?

rw120555,
Thanks for your help. I've contacted D-Link, I want to see if they can solve this problem, I doubt it but it's worth a shot. If not, I guess I have no choice but to return the router or get it replaced.

JackMDS,
Yes, our service uses PPPOE. Yes we did uninstalled all of that software before trying to make the router work with Earthlink, and we did set the router to PPPOE.

Well I fixed my problem. I went out and bought a Linksys Router. The internet once again works perfectly! I'll be sending the D-link Back tomorrow

Sorry if this isn't the solution that anyone wants to here, but I ran out of ideas and patience. I hope someone figures out this problem someday.

It is the best solution.

The Quality Assurance of Entry Level Hardware S**X.

The original manufactures exchange policies are so bad, that it is easier to return the thingies within 30 days, and get some thing else at the retail store.
