Diablo 3 impressions for suckers who have to be at work?

I played Diablo,Diablo 2 and of course will be hammering on Diablo 3. What's you impressions so far? I am looking for opinions of people who have experience in in previous versions of Diablo.

It's fun. I wish they kept the cauldron & cube though, but the free town portals make trips back to vendor not so bad. The crafting system feels like a huge gold sink but I like it so far. The ability to enter a friends game at any time and teleport to them from their banner makes it incredibly easy to come in and play even for just 15 minutes and then leave.

I like the itemization, it feels like my item decisions really impact my character, upgrading weapons and adding dex gear (as I am playing a demon hunter, which gets damage from dex) shows a very noticeable increase in damage. The variety in skills is keeping the game fresh, every few levels I have something new to play with, although I often find myself going back to an older ability I prefer.

Diablo 2 was always my go-to game when my internet was down.. =/

Didn't really care for the online co-op unless it was with RL friends.

I noticed quite a few changes from the last beta I played in. More achievements added, and town portals no longer take items and are free once you reach a certain level. There are others like the difficulty being ramped up quite a bit. I mean massively ramped up. Not to mention I played when there was no rune system. I prefer the older skill tree setup they had though. I personally rather PICK the skills I wanted from an entire pool and assign them to the hotkeys I wanted. I hate that now I have to pick from a smaller pool per key. Where as previously with my monk I would have both heal and blind. Now since heal and blind are on the same "key" I can have only one or the other. Sucks balls.

The items cost MUCH more from the vendors and you receive a lot less. Also, the crafting system is now a massive money sink compared to before. Where as before you could go through an entire run through and have decent enough gear to do what you need, it is now much harder to be adequately geared.

So far though the story is the same since I'm just about to beat the Skeleton king. Wasn't able to progress past that point in beta. So as far as the "maps" and story go those haven't changed too much.

What I couldn't stand was the launch problems. I couldn't log in to the game until 6 AM CST. Was up from 2AM when it first started and was screwed in logging in. Many others were. Knew it was going to happen, which is why they tried to minimize that initial rush by putting it at a horrible play hour. Still didn't matter as their servers were swamped. Just like in beta. Be prepared to have a horrible log on experience for these first few weeks. Mainly because as a single player game you have to be connected online to play.

When I was in beta I witnessed the dumbing down of the game. There used to be assignable skills like d2 but now it is left button skill or right button skill. Yeah I understand that people wants to farm with only one hand so they can use the other hand to do something else such as hold their beer or jack off, but it also makes the game mind numbingly boring. Also although there are variation in skills, they lacks impact in variety as one of them is clearly better than the others..
