I never understand why people pre-order. I did it once and Best Buy screwed me over. Just drive to the store and grab a copy.

I have done it through Amazon numerous times (it's usually cheaper by $10) and have had no problems with them. This was the first with Newegg. Never again through them. Ever.

I suspect it's no more crackable to play off line than, for example, wow is.

There is always online DRM (crackable).

Then there is a true client/server app where without the server you have nothing. D3 is, I am sure, client/server. You would have to write a server emulator, and at the end of the day, it would never be the same as the real game (much like emulated wow servers).

Interesting, so does this mean that SP play will be dynamic? I understand the concept of WoW emulators being different from the live servers, but that is mainly due to the frequent content changes and the fact that there aren't as many people online. But with Diablo III I'm not sure that would matter for SP would it?

I know the WoW emulators have become easier to obtain and set up, which is why I have hopes for DIII getting them...especially with the popularity of single player offline play. I know I'll be using one if it becomes available, Diablo has always been my go-to games for offline play.

I'm pissed at Newegg. I preordered months ago and won't get my copy until tomorrow. So now I have to go get it omw home, then return the copy from newegg to the store (unopened and sealed still of course) just so I can play tonight.

#firstworldproblems

you seriously can't wait a day? wow...

did newegg guarantee release day delivery? I bet not. only amazon does this that I am aware of.

let me guess, you bought it on newegg when it was on sale to save a few bucks? now you're pissed that it's got to ship? baahahahhahahaha people feel entitled to everything, don't they?

Your characters, all the loot generation, mob activity, etc are all run by the server.

Think D2 multiplayer mode, but with only a single person in game. That is D3's version of single player. A crack won't help (the bits just aren't there to run the full game, and it's not like the ubisoft stuff where only pieces are missing.), and an emulator will always be a bad clone in my opinion

But yes, it would be easier to emulate than, say, wow.

ladder doesnt get resetted very often.
and 95% of the time, unless ur on the start of ladder, you'll never see yourself on it.

Its a constant game of +1 on levels, and the only way u can stay ahead is if you have the +1 ahead of everyone else.

Anyhow i understand people's rants with Diablo.
Everyone wants level cap...

Amazon has always worked for me on release day delivery, but I just got an email from them:
We're sorry for the delay in shipping the order you placed on March 16, 2012
We have good news -- the order is now being shipped! You will receive a shipping confirmation with an updated delivery estimate within the next business day

Wonder if I will still get it today...

I am going to throw out a guess that whatever login issues that happened last night will be coming back with a vengance tonight starting around say 9pm EST. Also would not be surprised that the issue will keep croping up during prime time for the next week or so.

Servers "under maintenance" right now, although it looks like if you are already playing you might be able to keep playing through maintenance.

I'm sure someone will have it cracked to enable offline SP before long.

Lets f'ing hope so. I dumped 60$ on this trash to be told I can't play. I still can't login 11 hours after launch. The game just hangs at retrieving hero list.

I won't be buying another Blizzard game. This is total f'ing BS. I won't just be "patient", I am mad.

All of this will be forgotten in 36 hours. Trust me. It will be ok. Go outside and enjoy the nice May air. Perhaps run around the block a few times.

these posts are hilarious...games that require online connections always have issues on release day...

it's also been known for how long that it will require you to be online to play?

Its like people who have never played a PC game before are all coming out of the woodwork today.

I'm really surprised that even though people have been voicing their opinions about the online requirement blizzard still designed the game like this.

Granted, I know this is really just an issue because it's the first day of release, but I wouldn't be surprised is every time there is a ladder reset or new content this happens, which will continue to piss off SP's.

Anyhow, their metacritic rating has now plummeted to a 3.8 and their forums are blowing up with initial disgust for the game, so hopefully they get this straightened out soon.

^And how long ago did they say this game would require an online connection? >.<

And you act surprised about a PC game having bugs when it first comes out. Hmmm...

I believe they've said that in order for multiplayer to be secure they need to keep everything server side. Thus, technically, you aren't playing a single player game.

In fact, Diablo 3 just flat out isn't a single player game. You can solo it, but it's not technically single player. As soon as they announced you had to be online to play you were made aware that it wasn't a single player game and that if the servers go down, you can't play.

I think a lot of people are just pissed that Blizz has worked on this game for so long and had a very thorough beta program and on day one people can't even log on.

It just sucks for everyone involved. I'm sure Blizz is pissed too. With WoW when they have these kind of failures their attitude is usually "It will be fixed when it's fixed", but this is different. You have a ton of people trying to get in for the first time and start competing in the ladder and it's not like you can just refund them their play time to keep them happy.

That is like saying you can't complain about EA games being garbage because we have had past EA games that have been garbage.

Just because something is predictable doesn't mean it's acceptable.

I anticipated problems like this... but

Last night (3:01), after about 10 minutes of error 37, I got in, created my character and played 5 straight hours with the only issue being two instances of lag that only lasted 3 seconds or so.

That I did not expect; that it would be stable 10 minutes after launch.

Nothing they're not used to. Most online game launches have the same/similar issues when they first open the flood gates.

I think the point is that since it's predictable, it's your own fault for thinking it would be any different although generally I'd give Blizzard the benefit, once they said online only pretty much points to problems on release day.
