So from where is the best place to get D3 from?(for price) Digital or box? Pre-order and/or regular.

I typically don't pre-order since the last time I pre-ordered from Best Buy 10 years ago, when I went in to pick up my game they didn't fucking have it. Walked into walmart across the street and pick it up off the shelf right after.

I don't care if it's digital or box, who has the best price? If this price is for pre-orders only, is it too late to pre-order at this point?

A good deal was Amazon at £22.43 delivered.
That's what I pre-ordered at, and then got the VAT off because I live in the Channel Islands, so final price is £19.14.

£45 for digital download of something that could be pre ordered retail boxed for under half of that is definitely extortion.

damn you made out like a bandit!

I did not think CE version was worth the price(nothing in there I liked) so ordered standard edition.

I'm selling off most of the CE bits. I *really* wanted that Art Book.

Should end up with D3, the artbook and have paid less than a standard copy of D3

Alright, done. I pre-purchased it and downloaded the installer, ready to install the game at release. What I would have liked though is if we'd received the soundtrack (digitally) if we pre-purchased so we could listen to it right now, but alas.

I can't wait. I played D2 for something like seven or eight years I don't clearly remember anymore by now, but it took a huge chunk of my social life [away] but I enjoyed it during all that time, despite the few moments of frustration or negligible bugs (excluding exploits). I often considered D2 a "perfect game", it's figurative, it's just on my top three of my all time favorites for the PC specifically. I'm not exactly expecting D3 to be "better than" D2 has been during its prime time, but I do expect D3 to be the only ARGP that can come as feasibly close to D2 as possible.

Two days remain, and to think that even five years ago I was thinking about the day "when" (never "if") D3 would finally see the light of day (or the darkness of hell). We're almost there fellow Sanctuary combatants, we're almost there!

Yeah, its always funny when I read people who say that. I am also one of those people who played D2 since release date on and off for about 7 years. I always wonder if theres chances some of us played together before. I had countless nights of playing where I stayed up all night. D2 was one of my all time favorite games as well and definitely the one I have spent most time playing.

I have a very bad feeling that D3 is not going to be even remotely similar in the sense of replayability and fun value. They are catering too much to the casual gamer bullshit rather than focusing on what hardcore arpg players like. I know many are thinking its going to be some huge blockbuster of a game but, I have a feeling it wont be. It made me cringe when I heard you cant customize skill builds on characters, only by weapons. That seems incredibly stupid to me.

With the FreeToPlay game Path of Exile and the cheaply Torchlight 2 coming out, while I have pre-ordered D3, I am waiting to see what reviews on for it before I pay for it.

The number of playable builds in d3 dwarfs the number in d2. I don't know what you are talking about with the weapons. It will also be harder.

How can that be true if players only differ by items? Huh? You cant make unique skill build choices in D3, you can only customize by items. How that can dwarf build choices from d2 is beyond me.

I also dont like how they capped players in a game to 4 rather than 8 from d2. I always liked playing with bigger groups of people over smaller.

someone somewhere mentioned resetting your MF when you change skills. for the uber hardcore players, this encourages people to find single, optimized builds.

i'm not saying it's an ideal solution, but having to grind out a new character kinda blows.

Honestly, not really, thats kind of what hardcore players like about a game. Long replayability. As I said, they are tending to cater towards casual gamers now and it may end up ruining the game. You should have to do research, find discussions and learn what builds are better than others and then having to grind your way to a high level. It kind of goes with the type of gameplay hacknslash item hunt aprgs are built around.

I'm not sure if Blizzard stopped it, but there's a way to get to Lvl 75-80 (if not higher) in Diablo 2 in a matter of hours doing Uber Tristram

in terms of builds, majority of Diablo 2 players that researched online just used cooker cutter builds unless they were able to farm/trade for certain sets of gear to play something unorthodox

edit: looks like Uber Tristram leveling results were typically level 1-85-89 in an hour, but I guess Blizzard stopped allowing it to happen after patch 1.13 was released

http://diablo.wikia.com/wiki/Über_Tristram_leveling

anyways, I'm going to assume Baal runs are the ideal to level in Diablo 2 then which doesn't make a user learn their build until they reach a sufficient level where they will either start MFing and/or PvP with that character

When most brand new games are ~£25 (~$40) then I'd consider £44.99 (~$70) to be extortionate.

When I can get the game for £35 and Blizzard want £45, I'd call that extortionate by Blizzard.

Get with the program.

Blizzard games are worth many hundreds of dollars, you should be happy they charge $60. Comparing a blizzard game to other games is foolish.

Well, ok, I am a very experienced D2 player and am well aware of that. That also only became possible after many years after a patch was released that added uber diablo etc. Also, that lvling was to around lvl 70 or so in an hour, after that it was quite slower.

And to be clear here, that was also what you would call an "exploit" and involved teaming with many people who could do it for/with you, its not like you could just do it any time at will.

In addition, yes, for the last 4 or so years of D2 it came down to just doing baal runs and being kind of boring, the first 5 years or so of the game were quite different. It was still somewhat fun but thats ultimately why I stopped playing it, nobody even really played the game anymore.

I understand your reservation on D3, after playing beta weekend, I have to say I was disappointed and thought about canceling preorder then. However, here's what I thought, after D2, Wow, Bliz had learned a lot about RPGs and how to make it addictive and last. the beta showed me that D3 isn't exactly like D2, but I have a feeling they have incorporated quite a few new ideas regarding replayability etc from past few years. So I am willing to dive into this one and just where it takes me. I haven't seen Bliz making a flop yet, I have faith they won't this time, it's probably my expectations that's playing tricks.

D2's replayability only came from the endless MF runs with Sorcs so you can finally kit out that WW Barb you really wanted for PvP, because trying to start any physical class untwinked is as fun as stabbing a knife in your leg. In contrast, D3's was fun with any class right from the very start and endgame is actually designed to make you play and survive the game proper than Baal run no. 9001. The open beta only reaffirmed my preorder.
