Diablo II crashing error on new system

When I tried to go play my old game D2 on my new system it goews to black screen with a little white box in the upper left corner. I then goto end task because it goes un responding and then my computer freezes and or restarts. what could it be? my system specs are in sig.

doubt anything is holding you back in your rig...

did you patch it up? run compatibility mode? reinstall again?

didnt patch it yet because didnt think it would matter but how do I run in compatibility mode?

that's the initial load screen.

I get that and that it would move onto blizzard logo etc.

are all the drivers up to date?


ran it recently on 3 different machines and didnt have any problem. a64 with 6800, celeron 950 with first radeon, and semp 2.3ghz with ti4200. all with no issues.

Patch it first and copy the music file to your directory.

Original shipping version of D2 had a poor implementation of copy protection on the CD that made it unreadable by some models of drives. It was insidious though, as it'd look like it installed properly, but sometimes files would be corrupted.

The other part of the problem was sometimes it'd install correctly, but read the music wrong and crash, corrupting the install.

Once you crash, you're screwed. Odds are the game files are corrupted.

Install the game, copy the music, apply the patches, and keep doing it until it's ok.

You'll never hear about this officially though, Blizzard went to great lengths not to mention what was actually happening, and only publicly acknowledged Plextor(I think) drives being unable to read the discs at all.

Trust me, I fought with this one for *weeks* when it first released until I figured out what was going on.

When I had a dual core, it never bothered me.

Yes, I also had problems running Diablo II when it first came out. Gave me big headaches, and even bough a new CD drive just to run it, and even then, I had eject my cd and reseat it 5+ times in order for it to run. . I eventually just used the no CD crack becuase frankly, It was very annoying. Great Game, too bad blizzard banned me for using a No CD crack this summer.

Hmm, this why I stuck with single core. Too many issues with gaming on Dual core cpus. Do some searching, and you may possibly get some type of "work around".

I'm pretty sure its not a dual core issue.

well I do have a plextor drive so that is probably the cause ill re install and do what you guys recommended. Thanks!
