Forget playing Diablo III without an internet connection.

Without an internet connection, you do not even get to play single player.

Has blizzard gone off the deep end or something? What is the dead with this DRM stuff? Cant I play a game without be monitored by the comapny?

What happened to the days when we could just buy the game, install it and play? This DRM stuff is getting out of hand.

This has already been covered in another thread. Easy solution. If it bothers you , don't by it.

Here's a question though: How many hours in the last year have you NOT had an internet connection that you were actually in a position where you could actually play a game?

I imagine with the auction stuff, this is a way they can try to control hacking etc of items. For me...I would only play this game online with MP anyway, so it is less of an issue, although I don't exactly agree with the overall attempt to control behind it.

This. If my internet goes down I have a much bigger problem than not being able to play D3.

exactly! i don't see this as an issue at all. this is just an excuse for some people on the internet that have nothing better to do than complain. 99% of the people will play this game online. the other 1% need to shut up because by making the user have a constant connection, the game experience will be better for the 99% that do play online.

OH NO! THIS MULTIPLAYER GAME WON'T LET ME PLAY WHEN I HAVE NO INTERNETS!

Because, you know, we all remember the countless hours we stuck into single player Diablo 2...

I beleive they tried this with SC2 and backpeddaled quickly, why try it again?

I did play tons of SP, and MP, of both D1 and D2.

so because the comcast node goes down or they run a new uplink cable I should be what? not able to play a single player computer game?

becuase its down I should have 'more important things to do'? do you think the only thing bringing down someones internet access is a large natural disaster or the zombie apocolypse? how self absorbed are you guys?

heaven forbid you like, have a laptop and want to play the game while traveling without dealing with finding wifi just to load the game

the point is its unneccesary to require it

No, definitely not. I'm not implying you should "have better things to do." Just that in my situation, it doesn't affect me at all. They're doing it to prevent outside hacks. If you have to be connected then they can always monitor the character. They want to eliminate duping etc. not just control it.

Many. I vivist my father often and stay a few days with him. He doesn't have internet in his house so these sort of shenanigans affect me.

So we can forget about playing DIII at:

At the beach house
At the deer camp
On a laptop while on a trip

I seriously doubt a constant internet connection is about cheating, its more likely about DRM and trying to prevent piracy.

Having to have an always on internet connection does not really affect me, but there are lots of people out there it does affect.

Um...and how often does your node go down? I think the only time my internet has went down for any large length of time in the last 3 years is during a power outage. Good luck playing any game during that Most places pride themselves on uptime. I'd be looking for a new carrier.

Is it self absorbed to be rational? If this was a single player only game, that'd be one thing, but seriously, you're going to play Diablo 3 on a trip on a laptop? While I appreciate options, that's a stretch.

I'm not saying it's awesome by any means, but really, It's a non issue. Don't buy it. Speak with your wallet. If you really think you'll pour more hours into THIS game offline, then no reason to get it. And yes, I'm sure some part of this is about pirating..but we all know (as well as Blizzard) that doesn't stop anyone.

You played diablo for the enthralling single player experience? You'll be fine in the 5 hours it take finish the single player then.

*scoff* While every company has to worry about piracy, Blizzard just more or less doesn't. Their games sell, and the internet connection isn't about piracy. I mean, using it helps against piracy I guess, but the reasoning behind it was to control characters. Duping and the like was completely out of control in D2, so if they don't make a radical change like this it will just exist again, and with their real life cash AH they cannot have bugs or cheaters like that.

Sometimes I like to "unplug" from the net. During hunting season, sometimes my family will go to the deer camp and I may not have internet access for a 3 or 4days, or for a weekend.

Sometimes its nice to step away from technology and relax.

What I find disturbing is that a lot of companies are moving towards this "always on" internet connection model. When I buy a product, that product should be available when and where I want it.

Would it be ok for chevy or dodge to put restrictions on where their cars and trucks can be drove? That if you decided to take the truck on an unapproved rode, that it would shutdown. Would that "really" be acceptable? I do not think so.

By requiring an always on connection, companies are limiting access to a product that we bought.

Then you shouldn't be playing Diablo III during this time anyways.
