nope Blizzard is flat saying NO MODS of any sort will be allowed.. basically they just killed thier own game..

Mods are the ONLY thing that has kept D2 going this long.. without the mods expect D3s life expectancy at less than 2 years.

Uh, no.

All D2 mods sucked, and D2 is better without any of them.

I've played D2 for years and years vanilla, as have the thousands of people online.

TBH i played on the D2 HC ladder for 4 years between 2003 and 2008 and this is the first if heard about mods.

WTF did they do?

They all sucked. Trust me.

None of the mods were well integrated, all the content of all the mods was lackluster.

what mods are we talking about here ?
I played since the beginning and I have never used mods.
I played USEast Classic Ladder for the most part and played some USEAST Xpac

Since I travel a lot for work and don't always have an inet connection available to me, this will suck. I still play diablo2 single player a lot when I don't have internet connection, or don't want to pay for it. It's too bad there is no offline option.

The more details I read about this game, the less excited I'm getting about it. I think I might let this one pass by and just buy torchlight 2 instead.

I am saddened not by the fact that you won't buy the game, but moreso that you mainly play it SP.

I don't understand this mindset.

What would you say if somebody told you they were saddened by the fact that you always only play with other people rather than attempting to enjoy a storyline?

As a Steam user, the connection requirement is meaningless to me.

As a Steam user, I'm guessing I won't have access to Diablo 3 at all, since Blizzard chooses not to make their games available on Steam. Kinda sucks, I wanted to play Starcraft II and Diablo 3.

That's quite possibly the least educated thing I've seen posted about Diablo.

The online D2 community is still very active for how old the game is, and the are absolutely no mods on closed battle.net.

The mods for single player never really got popular anyways, at least not in comparison to mods for other games.

You say that like having steam prohibits you from getting games from any other retailer. If you don't want to go to the store, Blizzard has their own digital distribution that works just fine. It doesn't make sense for everyone to use steam; especially when you're Blizzard. They have such a following that they really don't need Steam. It would be more of a hassle for them to use it, and I doubt they would get enough sales off of it to make it worth their while.

The rest of the mindsets make much more sense than this one considering that Blizzards is not a separate client but in game and does the same thing Steam does. Really no reason not to.

I don't like physical copies of games and I don't want to get involved in more than one online game library. I don't think it'd be that difficult for Blizzard to get on board with Steam, but like you said, they sell enough games that they don't need to.

That's ok, I buy enough games that I'm not going to miss Blizzard's, and I doubt I'd get enough fun out of them to make it worth my while to make another online game account. Blizzard and I can just agree to disagree.

It's conceivable that Blizzard will eventually sell Diablo III through Steam, but that's all they'll do. It wouldn't be a Steamworks game, and would only use Steam's copy protection in addition to its own. You might as well buy it from Blizzard directly and use "Add a Non-Steam Game" to add it to your Steam library.

Hmm... though thinking about it, Valve might not let Diablo III on Steam for the same reason they kicked Crysis 2 off.

I don't believe in that.

It isn't Santa Claus we're talking about here!

But on a serious note, Steam having a de facto monopoly would likely lead us down an ugly path. Competition is only a good thing for consumers.

Who played D2 on single player? I played Single player for maybe like 1 hour and hopped online. So much more fun to play with others online then to solo play. I can't believe this is even considered as a bad thing.

Closed Battle.net ladder US East is what I always played so I am not bothered by the online only requirement.

Another thing about the real money currency thing. Grow up people this happened in D2 anyways. People used to sell stuff on Ebay and item shops all the time Blizzard is just legitimizing the business, it's not terrible since they give you the choice to sell in gold or money. I'd rather have a choice then not.

Doesn't Steam sell more games than all other venues combined at this point?

This doesn't really bother me, nor does the $$ auction house.

What does, and what I didn't know till recently, is there are only four people in a game max at a time ?!?! What on earth is that all about, half of what you could have in D2.

Fail.

Second fail is no hostility in games, so no PK games, just stupid 'arena pvp'. Who is in charge of developing this game ? It sure is not anyone who was around for Diablo 2.

Is that for real?

What the hell.

Out of everything, that is what affects me most.

How am I supposed to play with my (more than 3) friends?

I laughed out loud at the ludicrousness of that statement.

Well I'm not dealing with online junk for single-player game. Besides no necromancer anyways :'(

Now if there was an off-line only, no MP, version without constant connection that would rock.

I think that would be fair if it was priced 60-70% higher than the regular version.

Different strokes for different folks. Not everyone wants _every_ game to be a social networking fest ala Farmville (or something).
Sure, I like multiplayer games as much as the next guy (TF2, L4D, etc.), but I also do like having some games being a personal/private experience.
