Diablo III vs. Titan Quest?

Diablo I & II were totally awesome for their time and I'm sure most of us loved them dearly and played them more hours then we care to admit but their time has long past. IMO "Titan Quest" might have been "Diablo III" a bit early but was definitely a much better and "Tweaked" Diablo II. Maybe we can call "TQ", Diablo 2.5 but I loved it and played it for at least a year or more.

So far, I'm not at all impressed with any of the "Screen Shots" Blizzard has released for Diablo III and I hope the "Game Play" is Blizzard's saving grace. Being that Diablo III will most likely not see a release until 2011, I feel that Diablo III might fall a little short of the high expectations it has among the Diablo fans.

How does everyone else feel about Diablo III?

The game is going to be insanely good. I think graphics are fine, there is little need for super special graphics in this sort of game. Dynamic events ftw.

I'm just hoping that they don't over-polish it and turn it into a hold your hand adventure.

I've never played WOW, but I also get the feeling that I should hope it doesn't get anything for that either.

I don't think Diablo III will be "Consolized" because it's always been a "PC" Game but GOD help us if Blizzard bows to the Consoles because right now:

PC Gaming Sucks because of Consoles !!!

There are hardly any great games on the PC platform and we have "Piracy" to thank for that. It's a a crying shame but its true. This is a topic for another thread so lets just give Blizzard the benefit of the doubt and hope Diablo III lives up to the hype.

If you want good graphics for a birds-view RPG hack n' slash I highly recommend Sacred 2, and I'm not talking about its game-play quality here, I'm just talking about the graphics, that game I swear still looks better than anything I've seen of DIII so far, although they both have different artistic styles, S2 is very vibrant and detailed while D3 is grittier, darker, additionally, as long as my own tastes are concerned Sacred 2's graphics are miles beyond those of Titan Quest's.

I thought Titan Quest had a less engaging story; I just feel like I'm wandering around killing things, there's no memorable fights or plot elements. It's kinda fun, but nowhere near as addicting as Diablo.

Even if DIII keeps all the same game mechanics as DII and just updates the graphics, I'll still be happy with it. I really can't see them going wrong with this.

I bet DIII will blow TQ away, although I hope that Blizzard picks up on a lot of TQ's game mechanics, like shared stash, infinite town portals, no identifying, better crafting, item comparison windows, and sensible loot drops.

I hope DIII includes some Torchlight mechanics, like auto-money pickup.

TQ had better mechanics than D2, but it lacked a compelling atmosphere.

DIII all the way. Titan Quest was nice as a gap filler, but nothing more!

How is this even a decent comparison?

Titan Quest, while a good game, is just about impossible to compare to a game years out being done by one of the best studios in the business.

Did you guys know some of the Iron Lore guys formed Crate Entertainment and are now at work on a game called Grim Dawn, which appears to be a successor to TQ?

Going directly against D3 is not a good idea IMO, unless you can be sure the game will be out well before D3.

I think the upcoming games to look at in the ARPG genre are the Torchlight MMO, D3, and Grim Dawn.

I hope that does not happen.
I hope that Diablo 3 actually does something different instead of just copying everything good and tweaking it a little.

We already have more than enough hack'n'slash games to know what works well and what works poorly. The genre doesnt need any more tweaking. We need a total change in direction and we need to find something new.
Making the same old crap over and over again with improved graphics is getting stale.

Dont get me wrong, I loved Titan Quest, but it had absolutely nothing new. Everything there had been done in other places. All they did was pick the very best ideas and meld them into one perfect hack'n'slash game. Now that we have it, we need to move on to something new.

What is it? I have no fucking idea. But I didnt conceive of Diablo either, and that turned out alright.
I am totally fine letting Blizzard blow us away with new gameplay concepts and inspired design. But realistically they will probably just blow us. A little gamer head to keep us shelling out with the Benjamin's.

Graphically among my games:

Dragon Age > Sacred 2 > Titan Quest

The image quality with the new HD5850 is far superior to my rig with a GF 9800 GTX+ overclocked.

Diablo 3's graphics don't seem to be its strong point, it'll be game play and replayability most likely.

Interesting views, I tried the Sacred 2 Demo and didn't like it at all. Dragon Age looks interesting but its not really the same as a Diablo game so I don't compare them. It just kinda sucks that Diablo III is still so far away from release. I hope it comes this year but most of all I hope Blizzard doesn't disappoint. For some reason the screen shots just look "Blah" to me. The whole thing has this oil painting feel to it which is more like art work and not rendered graphics.

Considering Diablo 2 is leaps and bounds better than Titan Quest, I really don't see a contest.

Was it really? I don't think it was but maybe its been too long since I played it. To me, Titan Quest was a really tweaked Diablo w/ better graphics and I really enjoyed it. I don't think it got the credit it deserved.

Just picked up TQ for $5 on Steam, have put maybe 3-4 hours into it. It seems like a very good game and I'm disappointed I never picked it up earlier since I've been hearing about it for so long. I think its an improvement over D2 but that may just be because I've spent so much time playing D2 and there is absolutely nothing new in it for me anymore, while Titan Quest provides a very different leveling and class/skill system. I expect I'll enjoy it immensely (once I get this problem with being unable to play multiplayer fixed) until D3 comes out, but I'm positive D3 will be leaps and bounds ahead of it.

Titan Quest was destroyed by the fact that it wouldn't allow one to move the camera 360 degrees. Couldn't stand playing it for this reason.

I can only say that Titan Quest is a pretty good game. I can't compare it to what diablo III will be.

I don't consider diablo II to be anywhere near as good as Titan Quest.

I can't seem to get into Titan Quest because the atmosphere just isn't there.

I would say that Diablo did draw you in a little more and it was "fresher" at the time. The Audio tracks and dark atmosphere probably did the trick. I remember the first time I played Doom III and being a little stressed to turn the corner because the environment was so creepy. Diablo did manage to do better with that, especially for the time when it was released. I just think Diablo III has to find another way to stand out being as we've had some really great Hack'N Slash games already.

I do like the idea of Blizzard using physics in game play and I'm sure the effects will be cool. With all the money they have made with WOW, I expect a top notch game given that Blizzard has BIG MONEY for production. The bar is high and lets all hope Diablo III can live up to the hype because you know Blizzard is going to make everyone wait until its good and ready.

Give sacred 2 another sot. Incredibly deep game. You need to be able to get over it making fun of itself in the dialog. I actually like the fact it didn't take itself seriously when it came to that but the art and play style were both wonderful. I'm probably going to start playing it again.

All one needs do is log into youtube and check out the Diablo III trailors they have. I think the actual game was shown at blizzcon one year. I expect it to be every bit as good as D2 was.
