diagnosing "dark" laptop LCD with multimeter?

Hi, I'm working on an Apple G4 Aluminum 12" laptop. The LCD is "dark", you can still see make out the screen with a flashlight behind so the backlight isn't on. So either the inverter isn't putting out power to the backlight or the backlight is burned out. I have it set up to turn on while essentially in pieces (allowing access to inverter board while turned on) with the backlight unplugged (and can still see the screen with the flashlight.) Question:

Can I use a multimeter on the 2 pins where the backlight cord (pink and white) plugs into on the inverter and get a reading? Shouldn't there be like 500volts AC on this?

FWIW it is a crappy analog multimeter. Thanks in advance for any responses.

I have seen "a crappy analog multimeter" to be more trustworthy than a digital one. But don't know the answer for you.

I would look for a surface mount fuse on the inverter circuit board, check/replace with same value.
