Why does my DUN connection report me as connecting at 10 Mb/s? I have an internal 3COM DSL modem. My friends' DUNs report the correct speed for them. Just curious.

I believe so. I've seen PPPoE somewhere and oA somewhere else.

How can I tell?

Well, the 3com connection manger reports me at 1,472,000 bps down, 256,000 bps up, so I'm pretty sure I'm connecting like I'm supposed to.

I'm just wondering why DUN is not reporting it correctly.

Never seen DUN used with DSL. I, and everyone I personally know with DSL or cable, run it with TCP/IP. We only use DUN for backup dialup connections.

Yeah, I have to dial 35 to connect, well p8,35 to be precise.

I constantly get a signal, it's just that I just have to dial that number to get internet access.

If you saw PPPOE you probably have it like me. I highly suggest replacing it with RASPPPOE. It works with Win2k, has a small footprint and can connect you automatically when booting up (simulating an always on connection).

The reason it says your connecting at 10Mbs is because that is your connection rate between your box and the DSL modem - not to your ISP.

Best regards,

obsidience, yeah, I figured that's what it was reporting, but my friends DUNs (they have ME/98) report the correct speed.

DUN doesn't know how to read your DSL speed from your card. It sees it as a 10Mbps Ethernet card which is what it's reporting.

Come to think of it, my friends have USB modems. That's probably the difference. Thanks.
