Does anyone know if I can use a V770 and V770 ultra interchangably
WRT drivers? I have two machines, one currently with a Matrox G400,
the other with a Viper V770. I want to make the machines identical
(they are now, aside from the graphics cards), so I can use one
backup/restore for both machines...

You should just make a backup of the typical system with Standard VGA drivers as the Video card. That way you won't have any problems with new drivers.. new vid cards in the future. Just install the latest and hopfully greatest drivers each time you restore from image. Thats the better way to do it so that there are no remains of old drivers

Kwad - They both use the Detonator drivers, however windoze will redetect the card should you restore from a backup of the other machine. The bright side is the drivers are the same so it should (I know Windows 98 will)not need you to point it to the drivers on cd/fdd/hdd or where ever you might have them - they are allready on the system in the right place. So to answer your question, more or less yes you can.

Incidentally, if you wanted to avoid purchasing another video card, Santa's suggestion regarding the standard VGA is an excellent solution as well.

I had a viper II for a while. In a C366@550 PC, it did 60fps in Q3 demo at HQ setting, without overclocking the card. I think it is faster than TNT2U.

r radeons really that good? i read reviews that its pretty good i guess, but when i ask people about it, they all say it sucks. hm...
well, u can overclock the MX and it'll run fast...well, not that fast at high res i guess, but u can't have it all with a cheaper card. oh yeah, i ordered the MX from onvia with the 25 off coupon. just waiting for it to come!

I have a cyrix 133 CPU and 32 ram. After you guys get done making fun of me please tell me if my comp can handle a vid card like the v770u. i seem to remember something about how old CPUs don't work well with new kick ass video cards. I should probably just buy a viper 1 for 20 bucks.

Save your money and upgrade your cpu and mobo. No video card upgrade can help if your bottleneck is your processor. For around $300, you can upgrade to a nice overclockable duron system then worry about your video card. JMHO.
