So I purchased a WD 3tb Red drive which I planned on using as a secondary internal drive.

I installed the drive just fine, got it to recognize in Computer Management --> Disk Management.

I initialized the drive (GPT)

I made a simple volume

Then I went on to assign the drive letter and do a full format.

That went fine, then after a reboot the drive did not appear again.

Upon review it is showing as RAW storage, and I wasn't able to format the drive or access it.

I went through dispart to totally clean the disk and start over. Repeated the same steps and am re-formatting the drive fully (not quick format).

It lists as 'formatting' but in event viewer I am seeing the following errors over and over

The device, \Device\Harddisk1\DR1, has a bad block.
Encrypted volume check: Volume information on E: cannot be read.

Is there anything someone could recommend to see if I need to return this drive and get a replacement?

I am thinking it is a bad drive but I haven't worked with a new drive in several years so just looking for opinions / options before going through the RMA process.

Thanks,

Lee

Nope straight up desktop drive.

After posting, I went through and attempted to reset the drive again and this time instead of formatting via the GUI I used the CMD method, it hung on 0 percent for 3 hours which I at that point threw up my hands and canceled it.

I was prompted with the following output which I am fairly certain means the drive is bad
