It gets closer and farther away though its orbit around the earth. It's aparent size changes by 12% between apogee and perigee IIRC.

I think it only appears that big when it's low on the horizon (i.e., at moonrise or moonset).

Yes but the effect we are talking about here really is an optical illusion. We are talking about apparent changes in diameter of several hundred percent here not, 10-12%.

No it won't. Not according to current scientific research anyway. The rate of expansion is actually accelerating. It will NEVER contract, no matter how far into the future you look. In fact the rate of expansion will one day become so fast that even molecules and atoms will be ripped apart.

And it's not just what is in current favour. There was never a consensus before that the Universe would necessarily end in a Big Crunch (contraction). That was merely ONE possibility. The real argument here was what was the overall "shape" of the universe Open, Closed, Flat. Scientists never came to a conclusion before about this, they just left it as an open question. Now they have good reason to think that it is OPEN meaning that it will expand forever. Indeed it is actually accelerating.

I stopped reading the theories a few years ago, and at the time, Entropy was the popular, believed, conclusion, based on the 2nd law of thermodynamics.

honestly... i don't really care either way, since we'll be long dead and forgotten, and the Sun will have Supernova'd and killed all life in this solar system anyways, before the death of the universe occurs.
