I lost 4.3% an hour not doing anything on the thing, except a 20 minute call and browse tumblr for 10 minutes... GSAM says 10% for screen, 84% for Apps, out of which 36% is taken by Kernel and 8% by Google services...

How far did you let it go down? I noticed after several days that with this phone the drop from 100% to 85% happened in the first couple of hours (in the morning, in my case) regardless of usage, but then it takes a whole day with full usage (at least my version of it) to get it down to 40-50% around midnight.

I went to sleep around 1:30AM and plugged the phone then. It was showing 17% battery - and I didn't really use it yesterday... GSAM shows me a list of processes that are part of the "Kernel" that's eating the biggest part of "Apps" (36%) - which eat 85% of the total battery usage. Any way for me to figure out what is what? There's like 10 pages of names...

I've noticed that the One loses a lot of battery with media playing. I could be using the phone for hours, then watch one hour of video at like 4pm and I notice my battery goes way, way down after that. I check usage and it shows MX Player at 50%. Not even my Nexus 4 was this bad.

Interesting.. I can watch an hour of something and lose maybe 5%. Can listen to music most of the day and not lose more than 20%. Stock music app and using MoboPlayer for video.

Is MX Player using SW, HW or HW+ for those particular videos? Were you streaming or playing from local storage?

Music is fine, it seems it's just video be it Netflix or local files played through MX Player. I can't watch more than a hour without it really killing my battery.

I'll have to give Netflix a try (haven't bothered to use it since getting the One ). Local videos using Mobo doesn't kill my battery.

My MX defaults to HW+, but I've also tried SW when I was having audio issues with HW+ once. Didn't notice any difference, battery was being murdered the same. This was locally stored media.

Netflix is worse because of the streaming I would assume.

Hmm, I had thought maybe it went to SW mode and pegged the CPU burning battery but it's not that it seems. No idea now. I'll play around on my GS4 later and see if it's a MX Player bug.

Would really appreciate if someone can or has compared the speakers on the One versus the iPhone 5. More interested in audio podcasts versus music. I have the iPhone 5 and find the speakers to be very good for podcasts but not quite excellent. (Could be louder at max.)

Only comparison I've done is with a coworkers iPhone 4S, listening to the same song on YouTube. You can definitely tell that the HTC One's speaker fill the room more and don't sound tinny at the same volume.

I haven't done the direct comparison to the iPhone 5 myself, but objectively it should be louder. The One is the loudest phone I've used, and it's not tinny or distorted at max either. It's very good for both podcasts and music. I use mine to listen to TWiT podcasts (and the AnandTech ones whenever they come out) all around the house when I'm getting ready for work, or for streaming/playing music. It's as good as a lot of smaller standalone radios.

It's not just volume, the dual front facing speakers definitely make for the best sounding experience I've ever had a phone. That is, for the few times I'm listening to something without headphones.

I think I'm going to listen for myself at AT&T. I actually find myself listening to podcasts without headphones a lot. Getting ready for work. Driving. Cleaning.

A coworker decided to replace his Note 1 with an HTC One Wednesday evening. Got to check it out today. Very nice, the button layout didn't annoy me as much in person as it did looking at pictures.

Speakers are damn good, going by a Man of Steel trailer on Youtube and some Pandora music.

Didn't get to play much with Sense 5 though, as he hadn't had much of a chance to customize or set much up.

So... today I'm working from a location that has only 3G (no LTE). In the 3 hours the phone's been off the charger, I lost 2% !! It's the goddamn LTE that's draining the phone like crazy...

Gotta find a way to stay on 3G all the time and I'm golden!

Yea the LTE radios do appear to be a big battery drain. I've had my SIM in another phone tethering for the last two days, so the One has just been on WiFi, and the battery has gone over two days without a charge.

16% gone after 6 hours of mediocre usage. Flipboard, emails, playing with settings, a few updates - looks great now Couldn't be happier! It's not getting so hot either!

Go to Settings, Mobile data, Network mode and switch from "GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto" to "GSM/WCDMA auto".

Thanks. I used *#*#4636#*#* to access the setting and change it there. Seems it's the same thing.
