16% gone after 6 hours of mediocre usage. Flipboard, emails, playing with settings, a few updates - looks great now Couldn't be happier! It's not getting so hot either!

What did you do to fix it?

This begs the question, will the camera and audio have full functionality. It so, the drivers would be available for any and all like Cyanogen

Cult of Android is reporting a release within two weeks as well. Seems like they would need to include their Beats Audio software and ImageSense into AOSP or include the drivers into their GE One.

Either way, I'm betting community devs will kang the necessary parts.

The camera on this phone is epic !! I did quite a few pictures at the bar yesterday, it's quite dark there - the colors are phenomenal My old iPhone 4S can't hold a candle to the One! The difference is very dramatic.

This is making me so excited. Was holding off on cyanogen because of the camera features.

Anyone knows of an app that will make the two capacitive buttons backlight stay on all the time as long as the screen is on? I tried "Soft buttons light" but it doesn't work Well, it did work for a while and it stopped now and I can't make it work again. It's so much easier to use them when my eyes can see the back and home shape.

Picked one up today. Pretty sure I got the last TMO One in Phoenix too.

They were sold out, with shipment arriving on Tuesday, but they had a single unit left that a customer had done the account setup and paperwork for, but hadn't paid. I was willing to buy on the spot, and the customer didn't plan to return for it on Saturday or Sunday. They lose.

Also, I was talking to the store manager, and I asked to see the Blackberry Z10. As crazy as it sounds, they'd had someone steal their live demo units. Twice, in 2 days.

Edit - Sense 5 still blows. Blinkfeed is a cumbersome mess with infinite scroll. HTC's Gallery app is still worthless. The lock mechanism is poor. And I can't seem to figure out if the Sense dock is actually custimizable, or if the shitty HTC apps are locked. This phone will be getting the CM treatment as soon as they reach daily driver status. In the mean time, Nova Launcher.

If you root and freeze HTC lock screen it will revert to the stock lock screen as well

You've got to be kidding me. I bought the One on the 25th, and by the 28th, the Power button seems to be broke.

This morning, I noticed that the power button doesn't 'click' any more. Looking closely, the button seems to be recessed slightly towards the screen. It still turns on the phone, but I have to apply direct pressure with my finger nail.

Hrm, I don't know what's with Htc and their terrible power buttons but every Htc phone I've owned (Nexus One, G2, One X) has had user reports of gradually wonky power buttons to the point where we'd use alternate methods to reboot/screen on/screen off/etc. to avoid wearing it down.

And it's not like they don't know how to do buttons right because their volume buttons are perfectly clicky.

What exactly? Its a hellofa lot faster and lighter than previous versions, and faster than Touch Wiz...

Blinkfeed is a cumbersome mess with infinite scroll.

Huh? It doesnt scroll indefinately. It scrolls one page at a time, and it DOES end. The more updates you set for it, the more there is, but its not infinate. Unfortunately you cant remove it, but you CAN disable it and put it on an end screen youre not using...

HTC's Gallery app is still worthless.

you can install a 3rd part gallery if you dont like it. It definately takes getting used to, and I hated it for the first couple of weeks I had the phone, but have grown fond of it.

The lock mechanism is poor.

Curious what you dont like? Root and freeze otherwise.

And I can't seem to figure out if the Sense dock is actually custimizable, or if the shitty HTC apps are locked.

It is. Its done via the app dock, not the homescreen.

Glad you have an alternative

bummer. swap it!

I visited the TMO store I bought it from this morning. Comparing mine to the display model, its clear the power button is shot. They would have swapped it on the spot, but they had no inventory. Shipment is supposed to arrive Weds or Thurs this week though.

Seems about the same weight as Sense 2.1, the last Sense UI I used extensively. And just as intrusive.

Thats basically infinite scroll. Its only useful when you only have a page or two of items connected to it. It gets progressively worse, more difficult to use and find information, as you add more to it. Ironic, given their 'digging through the phone' ad.

I did, QuickPic. Unlike the Sense Gallery, it actually shows all my carefully sorted folders. Sense just dumps them all into one giant flustercluck.

Curious what you dont like? Root and freeze otherwise.

I intend to root and rom, but I'm glad I stuck with my 30 day policy of No-Rooting. Given that the power button is broke and requires replacement. Easier not to have to deal with any warranty coverage concerns.

It is. Its done via the app dock, not the homescreen.

Its not ideal, but covers about 90% of my complaints with Sense. Until the AOSP built ROMs get some more polish.

Butbutbut... Build Quality! Premium Hardware!

Hopefully, its a one off thing, as there's not a lot reports of failed power buttons on XDA. And the display models get a lot more hands on time and their buttons were fine.

So, Tuesday, when I visited the TMO store, the rep acknowledged the power button as clearly broken and defective, but he had no stock of Ones to replace it with. Today, I called head to verify that they'd received their shipment and had stock.

And I'm pretty sure I ended up speaking with the village idiot. According to her, the power button is not broken because the phone still turns on. Nevermind that you can turn on their floor model with a simple tap with the fleshy part of your finger and mine requires a forceful press with the finger nail. Again, according to her, she could exchange it would require a restocking fee of 50 dollars, something thats apparently hard wired into their sales system and which requires a manager override to get around. When I inquired why they'd knowingly put a defective/broken device back on the shelf for sale, she reiterated that its not broken. Because the screen still turns on. So, I guess under her logic a cracked screen isn't broken if it can still display an image?

I wasn't going to spend an afternoon arguing with her either, since I had to get to work and the manager was off site at a meeting. I confirmed that he would be present tomorrow morning, when I return. Again, which would be my 3rd visit for this, not counting the initial purchase.

If they refuse, then its what? A refurb through insurance or a refurb through HTC? My annoyance meter is definitely rising, and if this isn't resolved correctly tomorrow morning, I'm going to write a strongly worded letter to corporate. And I have the names and business cards of the two individuals who sold me the phone, handling the phone number porting and account set up, as well as the name of the poor rep I spoke with today.

i'd try for an exchange over the phone if I were you. That's what I did when my One arrived with a cracked camera lens. they approved it without issue.

Yeah T-Mobile's customer service has been downright terrible. It's taken them four tries just to get my unlimited data working right. From the initial guy who made the order, to the guy in the store, to the two different people I talked to on the phone about it. I'm one more mishap away from jumping ship to Net10 or something.

When you did that, did they ship the replacement first? And was it a new unit or a refurb?

If I remember correctly, the manager was also the rep I spoke with on Saturday, who was using the One as his personal phone. If he has any integrity or sense in his head, he should be able to recognize a faulty power button from a proper button.

Edit

http://www.anandtech.com/Gallery/Album/2711#9

Thats from the AT review in April. My power button does not look like that. It is not raised at all, its actually recessed from the surrounding material. My morning with the village idiot has had me stewing all day. :/ The finger nail and force required to hit my power button has scratched the hell out of the IR surface of the button . . . not sure if that'll impact the quality of the IR blaster. But these scratches are quite visible and the phone's not even a week old yet. What would it look like in a month? 6 months? 24 months?

Lifelong Verizon customer, but this phone made me switch over to AT&T (still seeing if AT&T network coverage is decent around me). Wife got a silver one, I have a black one coming in the mail. Ordered them from Costco for $129 each with no activation fees and a free accessory bundle. Not a bad deal.

This will be my first smartphone...so wasn't biased toward any brand. Played with both the S4 and One. Liked the One better even though it doesnt have as many of the features as the S4. Also played with the Nokia Lumia 928. Really wanted to like the phone (mainly because of its sweet camera) but wasnt sold on the WP8 UI, and the boxy design of the phone. Compared to the 928, the One feels soo much better in my hands.

So far, dont mind blinkfeed on wife's phone. But the lack of a menu button bothers me. But I hear there is a hack for that. What other quick hacks should I be looking at right now?
