The HTC website now has the unlocked One for $575. It's the 32GB silver version only from what I can tell.

I will as soon as tmobile gets the 32gb one. If verizon had it I would switch out my job provided iphone 5 and get the one. And then get the s4 for my personal phone from tmo.

Super LCDs have historically had worse brightness than even SAMOLEDs where have you been? Ever look at a Thunderbolt or Rezound screen before? Super LCDs having decent brightness is a new and recent advancement for the technology.

I had no idea but I from what I saw at the store the Note II was far dimmer than all the other phones. And it was yellowish. However, TBH, the HTC One was darkish so I don't really know what's going on. All I know is that, between the Note II and HTC One, the wife chose the One because it could fit in her jeans and she likes Sense.

But with an unlocked phone you should be able to go to any carrier. I guess not if its limited to a certain frequency or network hardware. I really wish Verizon had it, I would like a new phone. My rezound is starting to feel like a brick.

Can you use the unlocked version on any carrier ?

Any GSM carrier, yes. However, if youre a TMo customer and need their wifi calling, you'll need to get the TMo branded one. Also, the unlocked one doesnt support TMo LTE. The unlocked one LTE bands are 700/850/AWS/1900 MHz, TMo's LTE is 1700/2100 AWS. They use 1900 reframed for HSPA.

Ordered mine yesterday at about 11am PST, today shows backordered.

I wonder if anyone has got one and will try it on Verizon.

LOL, you listened to a sprint employee. One >>>> Evo BTW.

Yeah, I know but I don't trust the ATT or Verizon employees either so I decided to ask here to get some info. See what the comparison input was from actual users.

My contract is up in May and I'm thinking of upgrading from the Evo 3D. I'm on my third phone after 2 years of breakdown while wife is still on her original. I'm thinking HTC One, Evo 4G, or the new Samsung when it rolls out.
Has Sprint built out LTE in your area? I'd consider switching carriers if not.

And yeah, the only phones from last year that should be on your radar are the N4 and the Note 2. The Evo 4G *does* have expandable/swappable storage, but if you want that the S4 is a *much* better way to go...

Got my One.

Really quick/first thoughts for anyone looking to purchase right now:
- Screen is gorgeous. Definitely bright enough inside, very contrasty like Brian Klug's review pointed out, and while black level isn't quite as low as (S)AMOLED (which I sometimes miss having owned a Dell Venue Pro), it's very good. Bright colors as well.

- No major gap issues with mine, though at the top middle of the phone, next to the power button where the phone curves, there is some minor separation. It isn't enough to flex the aluminum top layer or the plastic - I tried. Looking very, very closely there is also some roughness to one part of that piece. It's not major at all, and in fact it wouldn't show in a shot from my HTC Trophy, but needless to say HTC's manufacturing process this first round doesn't seem to be flawless. But it really isn't "-gate" worthy, and I'm only mentioning it for those of you who are really obsessive about this kind of thing.

- Took a few photos outdoors today while it's bright and sunny out, and a few random indoor shots to test. No real commentary as I need to take a lot more photos to gauge the quality, but I did note that the camera is quick, much faster than the Lumia 920 I owned for a short while.

I have to try out music, some more photos, phone quality, video, etc but so far I like the One quite a bit. Size and weight are ideal for me, though it might either be too small or too large if you are stepping down or up from another phone size. HTC Sense is decent and responsive, have my home screen set up with international news and tech news. Smooth so far, and the spaced out grid for apps (3 x 4) works well.

EDIT: Ran through one playlist. I'm loving the volume of the speakers. The One gets loud enough to not need a dock or external speakers where most other phones would need them. I tried using the One while showering (well, it wasn't in the shower with me, just across the bathroom ) and it was loud enough at max, with little distortion, to hear music and lyrics clearly. I haven't had a phone thus far that wasn't low and muddy sounding in that highly scientific test.

I got mine this morning. Mine had no gap issues. Very very very slight overhang on the bottom, but I don't even feel it/notice it unless I look for it. Screen is gorgeous. Makes my SGS2 look small, but the weight/size are just right. I'm still getting used to not having a physical home button and the reversed back/home keys though. Unlocked it, will root later. Don't plan on running any custom ROMs for the time being.. but would love to disable all this AT&T junk.

Have yet to play with it much, but Blinkfeed is pretty nice and Sense isn't as horrible as I feared.

Last month when I was in my local Sprint store, which by the way is a full service store, the manager there told me that there was indeed big LTE expansion in our area coming 2nd half of the year. His employees were saying the same thing. I assume they would know more about that than I would especially since I dont keep up on the info myself. I live in the Tampa Bay area. Between Tampa and Clearwater, FL.

When I was on Sprint (left a year and a half ago) I heard that line for 3 years about wimax in phoenix, and my buddy who is still on Sprint says he's heard the same thing about LTE in Phoenix...I wouldnt hold your breath lol

Think about it from a business perspective. If a customer asked "when are we getting LTE" how well would it go over to hear "We arent on the release map yet"...or..."we dont know. Hopefully sometime in the near future"...

Well, Sensorly and the Sprint 4G Rollout forum seem to indicate that there is a fair amount of pre-official buildout/coverage already in that peninsula west of Tampa. But since you're on WiMax now I'd definitely research/experiment first (got any friends with Sprint LTE?) before possibly putting yourself at the mercy of EVDO.

This is the first Android phone to really appeal to me. I had been waiting for someone to come along with a phone that wasn't plastic.

Looks like this is finally the phone to get me to trade in my iPhone. The only thing holding me back are a few apps that Android doesn't have that I love on my iPhone and having to relearn everything on Android. I am like a god on an iPhone and its capable of a few things it looks like Android can't do. Namely having more then one of the same app so that you can have different accounts hooked up to each app. I do this a lot as I play a lot of the online games and have multiple accounts on them

Played with one as well at an AT&T store for about 15 minutes:

- the 1080p screen is great, viewing tiny text on a non-mobile optimized site was amazingly sharp. The same text on my Note 2 was slightly pixelated, though I could see much more of the site on screen.

- the screen wasn't as bright as I expected it to be. Set at max brightness, it didn't seem very bright in store, and not as bright as the Note 2 screen at less than max brightness. Still more than sufficient however.

- build quality was nice, but didn't get the wow factor I expected. Personally I thought the iPhone 5 felt more premium - the rubbery lines on the back vs. the smooth iPhone aluminum back was markedly different. However, still the class of the field for Android, but not the visceral feeling of wow I expected. My wife (who is stuck on Apple and has the 5), laughed saying this company was copying Apple so hard.

- still not a fan of the viewable screen size to phone size. The actual amount of screen real estate where content appears in a browser was meh - too much wasted space between the bezel, black borders around the screen, and button row. Felt worse than the S3, which is worse than the Note 2, which looks to be worse than the S4 (and I assume the Note 3).

- UI was snappy - though I didn't notice any difference between the Cleanrom I run on my Note 2. Sense wasn't that bad, though ideally I'd still want to run a debloated, clean ROM with the launcher of my choice. Mostly this tells me modern hardware makes Android snappy regardless of device.

So nice phone, will be interesting to compare to the S4 as an overall package, but nothing to make me dump the Note 2. I'll still be waiting for the Note 3.

This is definitely true. Even the packaging on the product is completely Apple. But that is a good thing. This thing actually exudes the Apple quality but for people who have wanted to go Android (like me) but don't want a plastic phone that I can flex in my hand, this one is finally something I will most likely buy.

The downsides everyone says about this phone is the same nonsense people have been saying about the iPhone. Can't replace the battery and can't add storage. The battery is probably a non issue, I'm sure it will be fairly difficult but if I need to change it out after it goes bad, I am confident I can do it. My iPhone was a cake walk and everyone talked about how "difficult" it was. The storage argument makes no sense for me because of all the cloud storage out there

So when is ATT expected to have this phone in stores? The wife is going abroad for 2 weeks from Saturday and wants this phone for her trip, preferably in black.
