Missing the point. It's ridiculous to call the GS4 "gigantic" and then suggest the One.

He might be referring to screen size. 5.0" is a lot to stretch your thumb if you generally use a phone with one hand. Not that the One is significantly smaller, but it is a bit more comfortable to use. Honestly, neither is ideal. 4.3" to 4.5" is what I consider perfect. I see the advantages of 5" or 6" in phablets, but I prefer a separate actual tablet of 7" or greater for tablet use rather than having a phone with a screen too large to use comfortably with one hand.

I feel the same way about the Lumia 920 - even though the device itself is larger and heavier, I don't have a problem using the 4.5" screen with one hand. Which is kind of one of the expectations I have for something that is supposed to be a phone.

I don't really care about the rhetoric but the One is mostly larger and heavier than the GS4.

The S4 is wider which makes it more difficult to operate one handed. They're both too big, but if the One is already pushing your limits, the S4 can easily cross them.

i wish they released a HTC One stock version. Would have bought that in a heartbeat. I can put cyanogenmod on it but i'll lose the kickass HTC camera.

I don't know.. I've tried another launcher and I still go back to Sense. I love Blinkfeed (though I wish I had more options to add to it) and I'd miss it. I tried using Flipboard but its just not as good.

Wow - it might be better than Flipboard? I love Flipboard... Blinkfeed must me pretty slick!! And 3 got the silver one in stock today, finally. But I want the black one... Maybe tomorrow...

The only thing lacking on Blinkfeed atm is the sources you can add to it. There isn't a way to add your own sources other than what is currently provided.

This. Blinkfeed is definitely growing on me. If there is a way to add my own sources to it than I'll have no need for Feedly anymore.

thinking about it. registered for the $100 rebate thing and have an old curve i can send in that's been sitting in a drawer for years. if my costco has the One for $130 then that's cheap to me. my hesitation is that i'm with sprint and don't really want to go death star or cellco as i actually use over 2 GB a month as it stands. but sprint is going to turn on 2 more LTE bands this year, which the One won't be able to use.

so i'm kinda thinking about getting a One X Evo 4G LTE to tide me over.

Well, there's T-Mo, but if Sprint is OK in your area the 800mhz (iDEN) conversion is promising.

Just note that it's unlikely you'll see a HTC device with that band until next year. First Android is very likely to be the Note 3.

I agree with that. The services I have are ones I wanted anyway (Reuters, AP, Al Jazeera, The Verge, Engadget), but more feeds would be better. I get why we can't add our own because the formatting needs to be a certain way, but it would be great if they could make an import tool or just add more sources over time. An AnandTech feed would be the first on my wishlist.

I do like Blinkfeed, though, it takes me a few seconds to check the headlines and I can easily pull up a story if I have time to read.

+1. I also like that you can have top headlines from all the sources you pick or pick one source to get feeds from without having to set anything up.

i'd really like that 800 mhz band. i'm in houston which usually gets sprint stuff fairly early.

i think i can get a evo 4g lte for under $150 on ebay and save my carrier subsidy for winter/spring.

of course by then they'll be talking about rolling out lte advanced within 5 or 7 months.

Can you give us a review on the phone?

So far I have been using it for 2.5 days. I have the black one.

I love :
- speed - no slowdowns, stuttering or lagging I have noticed so far
- build quality is exceptional
- screen is phenomenal - beautiful colors and very bright and vibrant
- I really like sense, it's fluid and fast and pleasing to the eye
- how it feels in my hand - light yet secure when being held
- speakers are really loud and clear
- size - I thought I would not like it coming from an iPhone but the size is perfect for me. Just right.

I dislike:
- so far the battery is absolutely shit - no way it will last a full day... Stats say around 9 % per hour This could be related to some bad app in the background - I have some strange wakelocks being reported which I'm trying to identify
- the phone is getting really hot to the point of being uncomfortable to hold - not always, mind you, but sometimes it does...
- can't wake the phone with the home button - only with the power button
- no physical buttons - I thought I wouldn't mind but in the end I wish the buttons had a physical click

Still undecided:
- camera
- third button missing - some applications don't show the extra space on the bottom, so no soft menu button...

Once I sort out the battery issues, this will be the best phone I have ever owned. So far because of the battery I still am not happy.

the heat + battery issues points to some rogue app. if you have the facebook app installed, disable notifications in it. terrible app and big battery hog.

I'll try that - do you have a suggestion for a good FB replacement app? Thanks!

Try Greenify out. That helped big time for me with battery time. I'll leave my phone unplugged at 98% while I sleep and it'll be 97% when I wake up.

Also running the Android Revolutino rom too. Has an option for Vol-Up to wake the device up and an option to long-press the back button to act as a menu button. I found it a little inconsistent so I don't have it enabled at moment.

That won't really give me notifications. I found an app called Friendcaster Pro, looks good so far. Let's see if the battery drain changes...

Sounds great, but this application needs root access... I checked how to get it on the HTC One and it's rather complicated... Flashing and other things involved, I don't know if I'm ready to dive into that D:
