Did anyone sign up to be a Windows 7 party host?

I did and tonight I got the email to sign up. After I signed up on the site I got an email telling me I got it! Free Win 7 Ultimate among other things!

What all is included here? What exactly makes it so people can't just sign up, not really hold a party, and get a free copy of 7?

That's funny. Just as I was reading your post, I thought I'd take a look at whatever happened to my entry. Just as I found my password, I got a, "Congratulations, you are a Windows 7 Launch Party host!" email. WooHoo.

Disappointed at the goodies. I thought there's be at least one extra copy of W7 for the guests.

I am just wondering what measures, if any, are there to ensure that someone doesn't sign up and then their 'party' consists of them and another person sitting at a computer going 'Ooh, look, Windows 7!'.

This is more about publicity. Just like in real life, people do not always go to parties they are invited, there is no way they can police this.

I got the email saying I was chosen and there was only one more step to be a host. I would have to:
Sign up and set up my free party website.
Invite my favorite 9 guests, using the free house party guest manager tool.
Upload photo's, including a "headshot" and at least 3 photos of my choice.
Post a comment in the party blog.
Cast a vote in the first party poll.
Choose the theme of my party.

Too much frickin' stuff. A "headshot"? Yeah, I got a head for you right here.

All you have to do is sign up. I signed up and entered 7 email address and got my email saying I was choosen

I got two emails, ten minutes apart.

The first said, "You are a W7 Launch Party host!".
Because you were among the first host finalists to set up your party online, you are confimred as a host.....

The second said, "You're so close to hosting a W7 Launch party", and includes the "invite your favorite 9 guests" and so on.

I'm confused now.

i got my "confirmed party host" email early today and just got the "you're almost there" email later, like 30 minutes ago.
but on my dashboard it says i'm good to go.

Oooh. I will have to check that out. Maybe I don't need to give them "head"

EDIT: My Dashboard says I am a confirmed host.
"However you still need to complete the Party Setup process."

2nd EDIT: I just got another email saying:
"Congratulations... You are a Windows® 7 Launch Party host!!
Because you were among the first host finalists to set up your party online, you are confirmed as a host and will be receiving a free party package to share with your guests shortly before the party.

Packages will be mailed in time to arrive before your party date. Check your free party site regularly for news on what's in your package, when it's been shipped, and when you can expect it to arrive.

Meanwhile, don't forget to use the free Guest Manager tool to manage your invite list."

So maybe the setup tools are optional?

Quite true, esp. given there are almost 12,000 US Parties so far. And this is only a small amount of the global number.

So, there's no way to police this......it's just publicity.
