I recently got my Leadtek GF3 Ti 200 and I have a strange problem (I've posted about this before actually, but I thought it had cured itself ...). It's hard to describe it, it's like when you throw a stone in still water. Small circular waves are formed, that's what I'm seeing on my screen. I can see "waves" going from the top of my screen to the bottom. As if I have a really bad refresh rate (40Hz or something crazy like that). I hope you can understand what I mean. This is really REALLY annoying me. I only just got the card.

What's even more weird is that from times to times it goes away. It just stops and then it starts again. That's why I can't be 100% sure that it happens in all resolutions and refresh rates. What is for sure is that I didn't have this problem with my Voodoo5 (yes I did a clean install of Win2K after the upgrade).

TIA

Sounds like moire problems, which are related to Monitors, not video cards. Try another monitor and see if it happens. ALso, w/ my monitor, i only get moire problems at 1280x1024 (the res i use, go figure) and all other res's dont have this problem. So... it's not your video card, it's youre monitor. Now, If what u describe isn't moire ,than im' not sure.

Since I moved to a warmer climate for the winter ( out of the basement ), I have had a problem that sounds similar to the one you described. Very faint lines in the screen moving from the top to the bottom.
Mine is caused by another appliance on the same AC circuit that my monitor is on.
It maybe worth it to try it on a different outlet/circuit to see if it still happens.
I know it is a common problem with televisions.
Hope this is of some help.

so how come I never had this problem with my V5 at the same settings? It's pretty weird. Thanx for the information I'll mess around with my monitor's settings then.

BTW what does MOIRE actually do?

How would I go about solving this problem? My monitor has a MOIRE option but it doesn't seem to affect the "distortion". :|

Moire is a problem w/ the screen when manufactured. I'm not sure exactly what it is.. but it's something w/ the allignment of the ray gun, and the phosphorous screen (or w/e is on the glass that filters out certain lights so u see images). I cant remember exactly what it is, but i do know it's something w/ the allignmant, and ususally requires a RMA to fix it. Are youre "waves" constant? just shimmering? or do they "move"? Like it's scrolling constantly? Is it only one at one res you get this effect? or is it at all resolutiosn? What do you mean by "It just stops and then it starts again. "? LIke one day it's gone, one day it comes back?

It's waves that keep scrolling up and down the screen. I've seen them go both ways. Sometimes I stop seeing them, I don't know if they stop or I just get used to them. This resolution worked FINE with my V5. The resolution under this still has the same problem. Changing resolutions however isn't a solution. I paid to have this resolution. If RAM is the only way to fix it then I'll just have to RAM it. But I have to know for certain that it's not the video card ... if I stick my V5 back in there and the problems go away wouldn't it be the card?

Hello,

You may just need to check to make sure the monitor cable is secure and making a good connection(remove and reattach), since the problem seems to be intermittent. You might also reseat the Video Card. Moire is when the edge(s) of the screen are wavy, the adjustment will try to straighten it out, if it is not too severe.

HTH,
