Did I get a dud or incorrectly seat my Zalman Heatsink Fan?

Maybe I'm expecting too much. You guys tell me.

I was running a e6300 at stock speeds with the stock hsf.

My idle temps were 42-43. And load temps hit 63.

This is with TAT 100% CPU test and TAT thermometor.

I just installed the Zalman CNPS 9500 AT

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118003

and checked my temps under stock speeds. I used Arctic Silver 5 paste.

My idle temps are the same and my load temps hit 56. Something seem wrong here?

Maybe takes a day for the paste to settle?

despite what people think or say Zalman is a pretty low end cooler. Results are what I'd expect

Hey dude,

I have similar temps on my 6420 at stock speed. Mine hits a high of 60C

You definitely need to consider your room temperature as a factor. For example at night time, especially when I put my a/c on my temp goes down by 10c. So my max load is only around 50c. In the day time my ave room temp is around 28 to 30C so obviously I dont expect my pc to be cool

Aside from:
Make sure you dont use too much as5. Before applying the as5 make sure you thoroughly clean the hsf surface aswell as the chip with 90% alcohol.

I have an zalman 9700LED and my temps are 37 and 40 when idling and 52 and 53 under load, ran orhos for 8 hrs 9 X 340 with timings of 4-4-4-12

My zalman seems to cool my cpu/case by 10-15 degrees, depends on room temperature.

According to the Nvidia Panel, my ambient temp in the computer case is 33-37C.

Is this hot?

About the same here with my 9700NT but under load only hits about 51°C max.

I've got a Zalman 9700NT on an E6600 OC'ed to 3.2ghz @ 1.4v and max out on Orthos @ ~52-53C. I used AS5 instead of the Zalman grease.

I wouldn't worry too much about your temps, I've heard people having their temps on their C2D's up to 68C, and Intel says 65C is fine.

BTW.....Zalman is NOT a low end cooler. You can probably only name 3 or 4 coolers that produce better numbers than the 9700.

1) you have the 9700 which has a larger area for heat dissipation.

2) Not all CPUs stay the same low temps, my E6400 is rather hot even with my setup and it's just cause of the CPU.

3) You could get an ArcticCooling Freezer 7 Pro and it is only like $25...performs within a few deg of the zalman.

If you look at the numbers......all coolers that would cost you more than $25 perform within a few degrees of each other (with the exception of the U-120eX)

Can't speak for anyone else, but the reason I was sighting my experiences with the 9700 is that both it and 9500 peform similiarly with the slight edge going to the 9700. Which probably just shows that Zalman hit a point of dimishing returns by making the design larger.

Actually I believe that case air flow plays an important factor in the heat exchange at the hsf. If you have a case with poor air flow I don't care what hsf you use apart from water cooling because there is simply not enough air flow to exchange the heat out of the case. My stock intel hsf will let the cpu go upwards of 124F with both cores maxed out and idles around 86-91F. I just ordered a thermaltake tmg-i1 to replace it with hoping that I can get the temps back down just a little bit more. I'm currently using a mge quantum case which has 80mm fans in the front and top, two 92mm fans on the side swing out rack and one 92mm on the rear panel plus the two in the ps. I'm moving to an xclio windtunnel case next week which has two 250mm in the side panel and a 120 in the front and rear. I expect my case temps to be much lower in there with the increased air flow. It kills me to see people with crap equipment complaining about performance. If you only spent $25 on your case then stop whining.

look at load temps at high overclocks. There is a large difference between the U-120 and Zalman

Using the 9500LED i was able to get ~23 C on idle and mid 40's under load from intel tat. The thing I noticed when I first installed it was that the fan wasn't spinning and it was because the fan had been pushed back and was hitting the metal. I just pushed it out and it started going.

So I would make sure you have the fan going and I would make sure airflow is good in your case.
