Is it really that little? Seems quite low. We used to run a TV (CRT) for like 5 hours at camp with a car battery and inverter. Seems they have a decent amount of juice. Bad to discharge them completely though.

Gasoline has about 35 MJ/L.

A good car battery is good for around 45 amp-hours. Thats 45 Amps x 12.5 volts X 1 hour (roughly), or 562.5 watt-hours. That's about 2.03 MJ.

29 ML would hold 29/1000*35=1.015 MJ. So that's not quite right.

It's actually more like 58 ml. But that's not right either. An internal combustion engine is only about 19% efficient. So you'd actually need 5 times that, or 58*5= 290 ml, or .29 L of gasoline to equal one battery.

Still goes to show why electric cars are so damn hard to get working.....

Double check my math if you like. It's 2 AM and I did everything on a napkin =/.

Did you tilt the mower to look at the blade? That usually runs excess oil into the cylinder/valves to cause it to spit oil for awhile.

I have turned the mover on its side many times before and never has it spat out oil quite like that. It was almost drowning the exhaust the amount that was coming out.

Push mower? Better off just buying a new one if you can't fix it yourself. Small engine repairs are pricey compared to buying a new machine.

Ummm. My Honda push mower cost over $500.

No way in hell I'd basically toss it and get a new one if I were in the OP's shoes.

Check with a local Ace Hardware, they do small engine repairs on mowers and are reasonable cost.

Better yet find a local guy that does it out of his home.

I have a guy down the street that does this.

When I had an engine freeze due to an oil leak; Sears wanted $250 to replace the engine. It was cheaper according to them than trying to rebuild it.

Had to fight 2 months before they would actually honor the warranty.
they tried to say I sized it by running without oil; yet there was oil on the housing when I dropped it off from the leak.

Depends on which way you turn it. Just run it for a few minutes and wait till the oil burns off. Check your oil before you start to make sure there is enough in there.

Mine gets pretty finicky if I turn it on its side. Mostly when I do the oil change since the drain plug is buried under several layers of parts. I have started just removing the oil cap and turning the engine that side to drain out the oil. It works since when on that side the dipstick bolts in to a hole in the block that becomes the lowest point. The main issue is that dumps the oil in to the head before it drains which makes it smoke a lot after.

Now it is remotely possible you cracked a valve or a piston. Once it is cold if it becomes really hard to start I would suspect that, pull the plug and use a pen light to take a look. If the combustion chamber is black with oil or you can visible see the crack, odds are you can just pickup a new engine and bolt it in. If you are inclined you can get a new piston, rings and bore [assuming the bore is removable].

Okay that's what I figured. Although Sears did look like they may have a flat rate since i put in the damage and it just spit out $65 on the site. Anyone know anything about that?

What happened btw? Did the engine block shatter from a sudden stop? It's only 4HP...

Hard to tell what happened, but more than likely you bent the crankshaft, it's possible the block has a crack too.

I'd call sears and verify if damage includes 'user-caused' damage.
