Did I solve my own hit and run?

TLDR's since no one gives a fuck what's posted in the body.

Car hit early Saturday morning. No visual witness. No insurance left behind.

Compare. My car. Note yellow streak on mirror.

Now with the headlight reattached. Note skid marks on pavement.

Took it to a body shop. They noted that it was completely tire damage and not a body-to-body collision.

Then I got for a stroll and find only blocks away.

Does this look like the vehicle that hit my car? The wheel is bowed out in the direction it would be if it rode into my car and hte body is slightly bent only on that side.

If I found blue paint on that truck, it would be inoperable after I was finished with it late one night. There's nothing "official" you can do.

Hard to say.

He could have a wheel alignment issue.

His truck is a shit box so the bent body could have been there already.

Do you see any blue paint anywhere on this truck?

My paint isn't scraped off at all. It's pulled off with friction. Oddly there's not "scratches," rather its crushed. It's directly from a big ass tire hitting it from the side. At the angle the tire would tilt in that direction if hit.

If a bumper hit it, it would have tons of scratches and dings. The black you see is rubber directly on the paint.

Oddly, my paint doesn't rub off. It flakes off. Similar to my Saturn when it was wrecked. Not a spec of purple was on her car and no silver on mine even though we hit pretty hard.

Old paints do the rubbing off. Not oem paint on newer cars.

I wonder if this would work.

Be real obvious about taking more pictures of the truck so with luck the owner will come out and ask what's up. Then say you were lucky to find out your neighbor told you that his outside camera caught video of his truck hitting your car Saturday morning and leaving the scene over on X Street, and you wanted to ask if he'd rather settle it himself or get insurance and police involved.

It's a bluff, but who knows.

Person might still ask for the video as proof that it was their vehicle that hit yours. At this point you're SOL. Good Luck though.

Shouldn't there be a dent or something on the right side of their car? It seems a little premature to start blaming every yellow car.

Is your insurance going to cover the damage?

I have to pay a $500 deductible, and thank God I chose that rather than the $2000 I was about to when I fully insured it.

The hard part is that I'm in the reserves, got hurt with them and had knee surgery. I've been down 4 and a half months with no pay from the military, but hopefully that money comes in soon. I'm having to pay $240 a week to rent a car so my wife can still go to work.

Leave a note saying, "I know what you did last Saturday."

Good luck. Reminder why I don't want a $20+k hunk of steel that breaks so easily and expensively.

Look at the two vehicles, now imagine the truck cooing at it from a 25-30° angle and clipping my car with its wheel. Ask that would come in contact with is the wheel as well as the metal wheel flap, scraping my mirror.

You need more forensics.
It was likely hit by the Other side of the truck.
Take measurements of the yellow streak off the ground (with inflated tire).
Measure the truck up that distance and see if there is a streak missing from their truck (likely the fender flare).

Take tons of pics and if it matches up, call the cops.

This. There would have to be some evidence on the yellow vehicle. Any scuffs or your paint on his tire? Also, if his paint is on your car, there will be some sort of noticeable mark on his.

Yep. Big trucks making up for small...

If that doesn't work, molotov is the only answer.

Everything I've learned from watching CSI and cop shows on TV:
1. Paint transfer especially in small crevices.
2. Tire tread marks.
3. Canvas area for security cameras.
4. Witnesses. The old dude/lady or the kid with the new spy camera.
