I hate to be that guy... But based on the mirror and how the light ended up, it looks like it got hit from the mirror first and they then pulled forward into the fender and light, which would mean it would probably be the passenger side front wheel that did it.

Anybody else on the same page or am I nuts?

Apparently there were cameras all over that night ...

Possible. Drivers mirror had was a small yellow scratch.
So most likely car was hit at an angle. First slight touch by the mirror, then vehicle hits the fender. If that happened, the right side of yellow vehicle should have some kind of scratch/damage.

Op needs to go back and take a photo of the passenger side.

Chances are the guy was drunk and can't remember which side he hit him from.

There wasn't a speck of damage on the passenger side of that truck. Like I said, the damage is strictly from a tire. The force was powerful enough to push my car backwards, slamming the passenger side skirt into the curb. Looking at that I could tell which direction it had been hit.

Good tries, fellas, but I think you're on the wrong track. While I can believe that someone is enough of a useless retarded invalid to hit a car in the manner pictured, it is FAR more likely that it was backed into.

a) People don't look behind them and b) the initial bump would be less noticeable, and given the thin sheetmetal comprising the non-structural parts of your typical small car like a Fit, it's a lot more believable that one could keep crunching into it for a decent amount of time before they noticed how stupid they are.

That yellow mark on your mirror should correspond to a mark on the passenger side of his rear bumper.

edit: the yellow even appears to match the truck owner's terrible attempt at colormatching his bumpers. Was probably done with cheap-ass enamel paint...if you wanna really be amateur CSI, I bet there's a way you could test the paint on your mirror to see if it's enamel or urethane. If it's the former, it would rule out any car built in like the last thirty years.

Also take that dumbass steering wheel club off. It's utterly useless, aside from making a good lever to help someone break the column lock.

My roommates and I once solved my own hit and run. I borrowed my Bro's car, it was parked on the street. I was in bed sleeping and my roommate ran in and said someone just hit my Bro's car and took off. Called cops, while waiting, we found a piece of the taillight, which looked to me like from a Dodge pickup.

It dawns on me I regularly see a Dodge pickup parked across the street, but it not there now. So we took a ride around the back alley where the actual driveway is, sure enough parked there is the Dodge pickup w/the perfectly matching broken taillight (The person didn't live there but a friend of theirs did). So we took some pics, got the plate, etc., pretty much as soon as we left to go back and wait for the cops the person drove off in the pickup.

Cop gets to my place we explain all, give him the light & the pics, including ones of my bro's car. Cop looks up the owner of the truck from the plate & did go talk to the dude @ his house. Bagged him for the hit & run, and the guy's insurance paid to fix the car. My guess is, since it took 3 hours for the cops to arrive, it was probably enough for him to avoid a DWI too.

Moral of the story, if you do hit someone and run....park more than one or two blocks away.

Every car I've ever owned that hasn't had the club on it in Portland has been stolen. Not an exaggeration. Every. Single. Car. And. Truck.

With the club? Not even a window smash and grab.

I managed to reveal the licence plate, and found the guy, who did this.
Here we go . . . . .

EDIT: (To OP)

I hope the local Police force are able to help you. Can they do a quick examination (visual only) of the other vehicle (and yours), and then decide to quickly question the other driver, if appropriate ?
E.g. The other driver/vehicle may be well known to the local police already, and/or there may be obvious evidence available to the police, which you have not noticed.

It also protects you if the other driver is an angry 7 and a half foot, 400 lb gang member, with a pair of shot guns, who likes to shoot first, and find out who was calling later.

Also (as other(s) have said), if the vehicle is valuable, then it is best to get an insurance policy which fully covers you, for all damage. Otherwise you could be left seriously out of pocket.

$10 says that the driver of that yellow "thing" won't give a flying fuck - if he did or didn't hit you.
