But No Country For Old Men was also a hyped up piece of shit.

Agree.

I think Grand Torino was better than slumdog.

i say slum dog is over hyped cause iam a indian soo i knw it well

Hype has nothing to do with whether something is good or not.
Slumdog is a good movie.

Slumdog was insanely predictable, visually is was awesome, but beyond that slightly lacking. Gran Torino on the other hand was good, better then Slumdog anyway. Frig sakes, Iron Man had a better plot then Slumdog. I've had to content myself lately with going back to the 80's and 90's and watching movies I missed the first time around. This year has promise, they better not screw it up.

agree. these past few years have been rather mediocre. Looking over the winners of best picture on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A...Award_for_Best_Picture I had to go all the way back to 2000 with gladiator till I said "That was a good movie."

I saw it over teh week end. It was OK....but it was overhyped. Anyone who wants argue about it needs to get a life. It's called an "opinion" for a reason.

do you deny that the camera and sound work was some of the best you've ever seen?

story aside...

looking at past best pictures, this might be the worst except for the couple I didnt see and Million Dollar Baby (which sucked)

I have to say that I liked Slumdog Millionaire was refreshing to see something that did not have the big Hollywood stamp on it

Yep. I just saw it for the first time and thought that while it was a feel good story, it certainly wasn't oscar worthy. Also the main song in that movie wasn't worthy of an Oscar either.

Slumdog was mediocre. I don't know why everyone went crazy over it...

The beginning was really entertaining, but the movie slowly began turning sour halfway through. When it ended, I was left feeling disappointed.

The Departed was just about the most emotionally wrenching movie I've ever seen. I wanted to kill Matt Damon from the very beginning of it.

you know, the departed is actually a remake of a HK film.

Although The Departed is good, it's not as good as Infernal Affairs.

I like the Departed more than infernal affairs

This thread is full of fail. If you didn't like No Country for Old Men or The Departed....well your taste in movies is in your ass.

The song from Don (Aaj Ki Raat) that plays in Slumdog Millionaire makes me want to watch Don for some reason . Also, the chicks in the video for that song ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYDYSvB7kI4&feature=fvw ) are kinda hot .

I couldn't agree more. I thought slumdog was corny, predictable, and over all pretty lame. I got tons of shit from my friends because they all thought it was one of the best movies ever.

Despite all the big names, you arent missing much by not having seen the Departed yet...medicore at best.

I liked it. I had a hard time getting past the horrible accents, but it's a solid movie.

I agreed with the OP. It was an okay movie, but the acting by most of the adults was freaking horrible (kids were actually pretty good), cinematography was so-so, and music integration was extremely distracting. The story was okay, but it just wasn't a well-MADE movie.

I think everyone just got their panties wet because it felt progressive to champion a movie about Indian people like it was somehow a bold or arty thing to do. The movie was in English and purposely aimed at Hollywood audiences, for christ sake, it wasn't even a foreign movie.

Don't get me wrong, there are ten crappier movies for every movie as good as Slumdog Millionaire, but it wasn't close to the best movie of the year.

The whole movie seemed like a giant lump of negative National Geographic stereotypes of India mashed together.

No surprise, then, when it turned out that only the little kids and the guy in charge of the music were actually from India - everyone else was from the U.K. Nothing like a shot of good old-fashioned British jingoism, eh?

Honestly, the whole thing is fake. The script has nothing to do with the original book. 95% of the actors had never even BEEN to India before. The whole movie was completely over-the-top and about as subtle as a cinderblock to the forehead. The acting sucked, the cinematography sucked, and the lighting was annoying. The music was okay, I suppose, if you like that sort of thing.

If you want to see something Indian, see Monsoon Wedding, an altogether better movie.

I'm something of a wishy-washy P.C. pinko Liberal type, and I thought that movie kicked ass.
