But No Country For Old Men was also a hyped up piece of shit.

Agree.

I think Grand Torino was better than slumdog.

I agree with the above. I liked Slumdog, and No Country for Old Men, in the overall scheme, but Gran Torino really was a much better movie then these two. As for Wall-E? Decent flick, but also not too sad they didn't get a nod.

The way you break down the movie really makes me see the true mediocrity in it. Thanks for that deep review of the film....

rofl are you retarded?
I said in my OP that I loved:
No Country for Old Men
Crash
and I clearly said I had nothing against:
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
A Beautiful Mind
Gladiator
Braveheart
(previous winners)

Oh wait, those aren't mega-popular films... you're right.. they're underground indy movies, so I loved them

Never watched No Country for Old Men but OMG, Crash was the dumbest movie to win best picture since Chicago. Seriously, movies lately really suck. However, I did like Slumdog. The only other movies that were nominated that I watched were Milk and Benjamin Button and I feel Slumdog were much better than both of them. Maybe I'm a little partial though since I've traveled to India for a business trip in the past though.

really? he won the money? they get back together? the brother says sorry? wow awesome
love that symbolize of the money bath at the end. so deep.

No Country for Old Men and Crash were definitely twice as good, I guess 2008 sucks (haven't seen the Departed)
looking at past best pictures, this might be the worst except for the couple I didnt see and Million Dollar Baby (which sucked)

maybe I need to watch it again? haha

Despite all the big names, you arent missing much by not having seen the Departed yet...medicore at best.

Get out

I laugh at all the ignorant Scorsese sackriders who think The Departed was a great film.

It's mediocre at best and holds very little weight against the original, Infernal Affairs.

If you want to watch a powerful and emotional movie, try to use your brain and view the original.

So which movie do you think should have won instead of Slumdog? To say that it is mediocre and not deserving of "best picture" would mean that you found one of the other nominations better.

So which one wasn't as mediocre as slumdog? I thought all the other nominations were FAR WORSE.

What is so ironic is I thought Crash and Slumdog were eerily similar. In the way the storyline played out, and the way the characters developed.

Guess OP doesnt see that....

Loved Slumdog. Actually paid to see it twice. Overall, it's an entertaining, feel good movie with very good cinematography and music.

The Departed is ok, I don't know how it own best picture.

The Departed was just about the most emotionally wrenching movie I've ever seen. I wanted to kill Matt Damon from the very beginning of it.

you know, the departed is actually a remake of a HK film.

Although The Departed is good, it's not as good as Infernal Affairs.

No way. Only azn fanboi's think that.

Yup, I can't stand in most movies the overdramatic scenes

Meh it was ok. Movies this decade in general have been somewhat lacking in the awesomeness department. Of the recent best picture winners I only really enjoyed the Departed, but it isn't like an awesome end all movie. Slumdog was insanely predictable, visually is was awesome, but beyond that slightly lacking. Gran Torino on the other hand was good, better then Slumdog anyway. Frig sakes, Iron Man had a better plot then Slumdog. I've had to content myself lately with going back to the 80's and 90's and watching movies I missed the first time around. This year has promise, they better not screw it up.

Agreed. For the most part, The Departed seemed to more or less just translate Infernal Affairs for the English-speaking audience. And in my opinion, a lot was lost in translation.

Agree, and agree. No Country for Old Men just didn't do anything for me.

I sort of liked No Country for Old Men but I'll admit I'm a wimp who hates downer endings. I would have liked to see something like Chigurh getting killed in a car accident before he got to Llewellyn's wife or something (though obviously people would have hated that since I'm certain that's not how it went down in the book).

Just the idea that the big bad serial killer destroyed everything good and is going to keep on doing so bothered the hell out of me.

Chigurh was Death. He can't be killed.

Hey dumbass, Slumdog Millionaire was based on a book written by an Indian named Vikas Swarup. The book is called Q & A.

WTF... how can anyone think that slumdog was cliche but Gran Torino wasn't and therefore was better?
