he sold his soul for a chance to be a role player on a championship team betraying a team that had given him his career and his identity.

will anyone remember Karl malone as the mail man or will he be remembered as a sell out?

he sold out by being a dirty bastard on the court... maybe his knee wouldnt hurt so bad if he didnt throw it out at everyone on the way to the basket...

karl malone is one of the top scorers of all time in the NBA and yet, in my mind anyway, he'll always be a washed up has been trying to fit in as a role player so that he can win at least one more championship. how pathetic. at least when barkley was being pathetic he was doing it as the star of the franchise.

Agreed, that and the bullsh1t he does when he swings his elbows around to his opponent's face. Dirtiest frigging player ever.

Yeah I hated the way that assh0le moved around players.. throwing around elbows and sh!t... :| I am glad Lakers lost this year. Actually, now thinking about it, Malone being in Lakers was the only reason for me hating Lakers.

No. Players leave their original teams for a shot at the championship all the time in sports. You going to list out all of them?

Another way to look at it is, if Utah did not have Karl Malone all those years, would they have just packed up and sold the team? The relationship was reciprocal, Malone did as much for the Jazz as they did for him.

All that said, I think he was a dirty player and an arrogant SOB. But a damn fine player regardless

Yeah, but it does it hurt the legacy because he went to go win his championship....and didn't. Granted he didn't go for buckets of money, but it makes a better depressing and noble story if he had stayed, never to win. Hell, at least going for buckets of money would've been a practical thing to do.

Plus he was an ass on the court. Good player, although I'm not sold on his greatness.

Malone's only legacy is as a roughneck player. He's been playing the same unsportsmanlike way since college.

Those are my thoughts as well. I can't even begin to tell you how happy I am that he missed his chance at a ring. Now I just hope he gets run over by one of his semi trucks.

First of all, I don't like Karl Malone - never have, never will.

That being said - I have to comment on a few things here.

Ikonomi, unless you happened to be going to Lousiana Tech at the same time Malone was there, or by some small chance live right by the campus, you never saw him play in college, so how could you possibly know how he played back then?

Flxnim, you hope he gets run over by a truck? Nice class there pal.

P-gold - you are clearly an anti-Laker guy to begin with. How can a veteran, who turned down more money from other teams to go to a team with a shot at the title, be a disgrace? When he was healthy this year, he was doing just fine. I wish more players would take into account that winning is the ultimate goal, not money. Now, granted, he's made a ton of money in his career, so he could afford to take a low salary from LA, but the bottom line is that the guy was hurt most of the year, and got hurt again in the playoffs. That only tarnishes his legacy if you are looking for an excuse to tarnish it. He's one of the top players of all time, period.

where do you get that i am clearly anti-laker??

go back thru all my posts, i'm usually accused of being a laker fan boi, all though that is not true either. i've made my share of arguments that kobe is as good as MJ at their respective ages. so to call me clearly anti laker is strange.

i still think malone hurt his legacy. he should have retired with stocton OR continued to play in Utah and go for the scoring title. even had the lakers won the championship, so what, malone would have been no better than 3rd best player on that team. a john paxson type.

Its too bad Karl Malone delivered for the wrong team for too long, otherwise I bet you would've been a Mailman fan

His Legacy?? LOL, after 5 years out of the game he will be forgotten like most players are by the average BB Fan. When was the last time someone here mentioned Dominique Wilkins AKA the Human Highlight Film?

well, i have. dominque is one of my favorite all time players.

he got a raw deal. atlanta fvcked up by trading him away for manning. then he ended up playing in europe for a couple of years. finally he came back and played a few good years with the Spurs when the Admiral was down.

but your right, people have already forgotten how good Nique was.
