How is a black man saying "awesome dude please" racist? Racism stems from a belief that one race is inferior to another. Does anyone truly believe that Steven A. Smith believes blacks are an inferior race? Of course not. It's common slang in urban black culture and he inadvertently let it slip on the air. He should be reprimanded, but fired? N**** please.

These sportscasters and their subjects take each other too seriously. They're just entertainers...

the worst part about this is that the media is stating it was being used as a 'racial slur'.

anyone who knows anything about life knows that the phrase 'awesome dude please' has no racist connotation at all.

i can't stand that guy, and i'm not surprised espn is publicly standing by him - if everybody denies everything, there's nothing to be upset about.

if a white guy had said the same thing.....holy shit!

LOL! White America gets its panties in a bunch when a black man says the 'N' word.

That's because he's a filthy racist!

This past Monday, I was draining the lizard in the bathroom. As I'm leaving I open the door and there's a black dude going into the bathroom. In an attempt to make amends for the horrible atrocities my vanilla forefathers had done to his chocolate brothers, I held the door for him.

Do you know what he said?

"Thank you, sir."

Apparently because I'm white I had to have been knighted by the Queen. Fucking bullshit.

Wrong. He is a journalist. ESPN caters to a higher level clientele and should be treated as such. If they want to peddle garbage slang on BET or UPN (RIP), that shouldn't be my problem. But we are dealing with the most negative and oppressive word to come out of the US. Regardless of how "he used it," that doesn't change where the word's roots come from.

If you want to use that jive talk on the air, star in a movie or move to the NFL network with Deion Sanders, Warren Sapp and Michael Irvin.

He works with the most retarded & annoying "sports" person ever in Skip Bayless. I'd have gotten fired after the 1st day of working with Skip for cussing him out live on the air. I'm sure his comment was in response to something crazy Skip's ass said. Therefor he should get a pass here.

Hell even the host knew what he said and tried to move the conversation away from it as quick as possible.

I don't think I agree with the mindset that Stephen A has a right to call another black person a N**** on national TV just because he's black. It can be just as insulting to the other commentator as if a white person said it because Stephen A was using it to be derogatory to the other person's opinion. That's what's different about this. Stephen A used it to demean the other person.

I still think Stephen A needs to kill Skip Bayless though.

well yeah. if he had been white he would be fired and worse.

the double standard in media and such is insane. you wan't to stop racism? you need to stop it all. not allow it to flow one direction..

I feel the opposite, we need to be less uptight about this shit. Why do we all have to be such pussies?

I am not at all insulted by it. It's laughable. I think people are way too uptight. And there's definitely a difference about how the word ends. But the point is, there is a double standard. . And the bigger point is - just own it. You said it, apologize and move on.
