So I was testing my download speeds, I have roadrunner turbo out of rochester ny and got:

25834 kbps download
974 kbps upload

The upload didn't change but the download looks like it went from 15 to 25. Yeah!

Any else notice a change today? We also lost service for about 4 hours this afternoon, wonder if they did any updates here in rochester.

I think it's powerboost. I wish they did the 15/2 upgrade in my neighborhood instead.

Our regular plans are for 10mb and the turbo are 15 mb. I do have the turbo, I was going to cancel it, $4.95 a month extra but if they keep it at 25 mb, I'll keep it as long as they don't put a cap on the downloads.

Whoa....on a 6MB plan (Errr.....somewhere close to that) and I just hit 20MB through Roadrunner. Had a 1.1MB upload as well, and ours is like 684 or something.

Ehhh I won't complain.

1. powerboost, or whatever your cable company calls it, is not an upgrade. they are intermittantly increasing your cap, and blowing smoke up your behind.
2. online speed tests must be taken with a huge grain of salt.

Got this off dslreports.com:
M E M O R A N D U M

To: All Employees Location: Northeast Ohio

From: ****** Warfield Location: Northeast Ohio

Subject: All Employees-PowerBoost? Launch

Date: August 22, 2008 Copies: **********

Summary:

ü The purpose of this communication is to describe PowerBoost?, a service free to all RR Turbo customers.

ü What we should-and should not-do or say to customers about this service is also included.

ü This service has been deployed on our network and we're shortly ramping up the messaging in our Marketing materials.

What is PowerBoost??

· PowerBoost? is a patent-pending network technology that enables Road Runner Turbo customers to experience faster connection speeds while downloading large files from the Internet-up to 22MB when downloading big files. Naturally, we don't 'guarantee' speeds.

· This boost is a temporary increase in speed provided there is network capacity.

· PowerBoost? is FREE to all RR Turbo customers.

· Customers are not limited to a certain number of PowerBoosts?. PowerBoosts? will be granted as often as the customer downloads a file and there is available network capacity.

· While there is no limit to the number of PowerBoosts? that each customer can receive, there is a time limit as to how often a PowerBoost? is provided (approximately 10-15 seconds) provided there is available network capacity.

What do I say to Turbo customers who are expecting a PowerBoost? on their computer and don't see one?

The #1 PowerBoost? Guideline is never schedule a Truck Roll for issues of this nature.
If the diagnostics are good, there isn't anything a Technician could do.

Please let customers with this type of concern know PowerBoost? activates automatically when capacity is available?and there may not be capacity available at the time the customer is on his/her computer.

We don't have visibility into our network to be able to tell a customer if and when capacity may be available at his/her home.

What will Road Runner Turbo customers need to do to get PowerBoost??

After the customer deployment, RR Turbo customers won't have to do anything. If a customer suspects he/she is not getting PowerBoost?, ask them to simply reset the modem by unplugging it from the electrical outlet for 60 seconds and plugging it back in. Resetting the modem, however, will not guarantee customers will get a PowerBoost?.

How will customers know that they have experienced a PowerBoost??
There are no on-screen indicators when a PowerBoost? is taking place, but customers should notice a shorter download time when downloading a large file, such as software, games, music, and photos.

Is there a special Service Code I need to put on customer accounts to make PowerBoost? work?

No, PowerBoost? is included with Road Runner Turbo service.

What happens after the PowerBoost? burst?

Once the PowerBoost? burst is complete, customer downloads will continue at normally provisioned speeds.

Will PowerBoost? work with all customers' modems?

PowerBoost? is compatible with DOCSIS 1.1 cable modems and above. DOCSIS 1.1 cable modems have been in mass-production for the last four years. PowerBoost? is also compatible with Time Warner Cable's certified home networking devices and Time Warner Cable Digital Phone eMTAs.

Is PowerBoost? available to multiple computers within the house (via home networking)?
Yes, it is available on all networked computers in the home that have Road Runner Turbo service.

A good friend of mine works for TWC here in NC and he confirmed that they increased the down speeds. I get as much as 1.1Mb/s down during none-peak hours.

i hope you're getting 1 MB down, aka "amazing 8Mb service 50x faster than DSL!!!!"

if 1 MB is only available during off-peak, that tells me they are giving you shitty service. obviously, the value to you is for you to decide. no, complaining to them isn't going to change anything. what is your up speed?

I think he's saying 1.1 MBps, not 1.1mbps.

i rather they leave it alone at 10mbps than to increase to 25m and then cap us like comcast does now.

1 MB/s = 8Mb/s, which is what he was describing. They've definitely got powerboost up and running in NE Ohio.

Turbo is their higher package for $5 more.

We only have a 6MBPS package here . I think Turbo is 8. Kind of annoying when Syracuse gets 10 normal and they don't care about upgrading us .

Didn't know about Turbo. Just called and got upgraded from 7 to 15 for $10 a month, and half off for the first 3 months.

They're phasing in turbo around the nation, primetime speeds are essentially the same as they were for me on the 6/1 plan. Off-peak speeds are excellent though, I regularly can hit 12+.

I wish we were in a better market for upload. Even with turbo they cap it at 768k.

I have the turbo, with powerboost, and was having severe issues with my previous modem. Finally a tech came out and replaced the modem, the new modem I hit about 32 mbps at the local test site in my city, and if I go to speedtest.net I get about 27 mbps down. Upload I get typically around 1700 to 1900 kbps on the speedtests, but if I've been uploading for a while it will max at 2 mbps.

I think the Powerboost thing is mostly a gimmick to make people /boggle over their speed tests; that being said I'd rather have it than not have it.
