I have a very cheap 17" KDS CRT, which I am happy with, but I may get an LCD for a second monitor, since desktop space is at a premium for me. I have a hunch that the difference in people's perspectives about LCD is largely based on the brand and model that they have.

No question about it, I looked at a lot of LCD's before deciding on the BenQ I have now and many of them didn't look good at all... short of a $1500 Eizo a friend of mine uses, this screen is the best LCD I've seen.

Are you speaking of the BenQ FP241W?

Nope. Partly cause I had a craptastic ancient 15" CRT that had its gamma and contrast all the way down (was afraid of going blind?). LG LCD was super bright, beatiful at native resolution, fuzzy wuzzy at others. This past summer, my employer used Viewsonics only, and they were around the same age as mine, but wow, you couldn't even tell native/non-native. Colour was way more accurate too, so I'm looking to get rid of my 1.5 year old monitor.

I also have the GDM-FW900, but I also just picked up a Westy 37" LCD and I haven't set the two side by side, yet (still waiting on the parts for the new rig on Thursday), but so far, I'm blown away by the Westy.

I'll post pics/comparisons next week, if you care....

I have a friend with a 37" Westy, it's pretty nice (bright and sharp) when running at its native res but the black levels on it are atrocious even when compared to other LCDs ,plus you cant deny the motion blur when playing games (its not horrible but still a bit worse than other LCDs) then again im VERY picky about these things which is why I havent been able to go the LCD route just yet.. But if you're happy with it then thats all that matters, my friend absolutely loves his Westy.

At first I was blown away by my first LCD (Dell 2001FP) but then when I started comparing my CRT side by side via Clone mode I realised it wasnt all that great after all and.. long story short I got rid of the LCD.

lol i did have the same feeling at first but now after a few days of using my new 19" LCD, i think the picture quality is fantastic, its probably just our eyes adjusting to the difference in the colors, being used to the same old CRT colors for so many years and then going to this, you dont really know how to react to it.

Yes... Running off DVI from my 8800GTX it looks very good, both side-by-side with my old 21 inch NEC CRT & blows away just about all of the LCD's I've seen other then professional models... bear in mind however that I'm not an expert by any means & this is the first LCD I've had for home use.

I find the LCD nicer for certain tasks but has clear flaws.

I love web browsing and anything dealing with text or digital icons on an LCD.
Non-FPS dependent games look great (ones that dont need more than 40-60 fps). Basically all RTS or MMO games.

Movie viewing and high FPS dependent gaming suffers (need 120hz synced for Counter Strike? forget about it). I do love the sharpness though. The ghosting is noticable. The gradation on movies looks poor. But then again I have a 6bit display not an 8-bit.
