Did you buy a Dell Laptop during the latest price slashing?

I have an Inspiron 9100 that I got from the latest round of price slashing at Dell. I did the following:

1 - Reformated the HD to get rid of the Dell crap installed.
2 - Installed Windows XP Pro.
3 - Installed the drivers included on the supplied driver disk from Dell.

OK, the lappy seems to work EXCEPT I cannot get wireless networking (WLAN) to work. The lappy can detect my wireless network but cannot connect because Windows says I need to "connect my hardware". The hardware is internal and allready connected! I have done a little research and other users say to NOT install the old drivers but instead install the new ones while other users say to install the old vice new?

Anyone who bought a Dell lappy recently have the same probs? Please share your experiences and solutions. Thanks ...

Tried the old ones - did not work.

Tried uninstalling old ones/install new ones - did not work.

Now I am going to wipe the drive (again) and install only the new drivers and see if it works.

In doing so, I found that the computer was un able to recognize any Wireless Hot Spots in the campus area that I knew were there. After the pain of looking for an answer I found a fellow design student having the same problem with the same computer model ( 9100). Thereafter, I went to support.Dell.com to find some answers, and i did. I have found, through downloading a different driver, that the driver give to me on disk is the wrong driver for my Wireless Card. For any other Dell 9100 users having problems with there Wireless Card, go to support.Dell.com and select the Downloads section. Type in your Service Tag number or product model (preferably the service tag number). Under Select Your Download Category, choose Network Drivers and select your operating system accordingly. Then choose Dell TrueMobile 1300 Internal 802.11b/g MPCI. This driver covers multiple Wireless Card types and should work. If not, try to recall the Wireless Card you ordered and select the appropriate driver."

The wireless card I purchased with my XPS is the Dell 1450. The driver on the disk is for the 1350. Just download the correct driver from Dell and you will be good to go.

make sure you are updated to sp2 because how the dell hardware works together it might need it. Somebody else had problems with the usb without sp2 so it could be the reason. If you have already done this then kill a chicken and shake its blood over the laptop.

how do you turn on the wireless on that machine? if it's w/the keyboard then you might need to install the hotkey software or have that turned on, then you need to enable the wireless via fn+wireless button. just another suggestion. hope it helps
