Damn, why did I see this thread? Time to dig out the old BG2 CDs. Weren't there like 5 of them? Ugh!
While you are at it, checkout some of these mods for the Infinity Engine games (the engine that runs Baldur's Gate I / II, IceWind Dale, and PlaneScape: Torment).
Baldur's Gate (and Tales of the Sword Coast)
Baldur's Gate 2
- Baldur's Gate 2 FixPack
- Provides fixes for most of the remaining bugs in the game that go unfixed in the official patch, also adds various tweaks to improve gameplay.
- Unfinished Business, adds back in several pieces of cut content
- Ascension, a mod written by a bioware developer that makes the ending of ToB what it would have been had they time to polish it.
IceWind Dale
Icewind Dale 2

Awesome links. I knew about EasyTutu and the BG2 fixpack but not the others.
So far I'm having a blast replaying this classic. I feel kind of silly, runny SLI 8800 GT's (G92) + 4 GB of RAM on Vista 64, and here I am replaying this game that came out something like 10 years ago, but it's fun as hell especially with the Easytutu mods installed.
I had always meant to replay BG and BG2 all the way through, as the first time I played each I missed many of the sidequests. The Easytutu mod order of install if you want to get the widescreen mod working (or at least the way I had to install to get it working, after uninstalling everything and reinstalling):
Make sure that you choose custom install on each item that allows it, and install all movies etc., basically any option to include anything make sure you install everything.
1) install BG
2) install BG ToSC
3) Patch BG ToSC to latest patch
4) install BG2
5) Install BG2 ToB
6) patch BG2 ToB to latest patch
7) Install EasyTutu
8) In separate directory where Easytutu was installed, run the widescreen mod.
The first time I tried installing everything I somehow messed up the order somewhere and the game was unstable and I couldn't get the widescreen mod to work on the BG1 played on BG2 engine. Uninstalling everything, and then reinstalling in the above listed order, fixed this issue for me.
The nice thing about EasyTutu is that it creates it's own separate directory to where you install all the patches and mods. I would recommend installing all the mods before they start the campaign. I spent about 2 hours just going over the different mods and fixpacks and now finally am restarting the game, after having completely wiped out my old game and reinstalling everything. All in all I've spent about 4 hours wiping out, reinstalling, and testing each patch after installing.
The NPC patch is a must IMHO, and should be installed first or right after the EasyTutu fixpack.
Playing on the BG2 engine allows you to pick all the custom classes like Kensai and Monk, which is quite fun - as mentioned above right now my main is a Kensai / Wizard dual class. Using Stoneskin, Black Blade of Disaster and Tenser's Transformation makes the Kensai / Wizard a complete monster in combat, especially after using Kai - you can dual wield and slice things to ribbons.
Kensai / Thief is another awesome combo, because of the "use any item" high level ability at lvl 24. Carsomyr *5, Human Flesh *5, the Amulet of Seldarine and the Ring of Gaxx give 90% magic resistance added up using this ability.
Another cool combo is Wizard Slayer / Thief dual class. Again with the "use any item" ability, you can now wear all that magic stuff that you couldn't wear before as a Wizard Slayer. Another combo is using a Barbarian / Thief dual class - Jan Jansen's armour gives 25% physical resistance. This can be combined with the Defender of Easthaven *2 to give 45% resistance to physical attacks. A Barbarian gets physical resistance from level 11 which adds to this.
All in all, so many options are open to play around with, plus the ability to import the characters into BG2 makes the replayability of this game go through the roof.
