I had 3 of mine removed when I was in my early 30s. Wasnt too bad. One had to stay in cause it was under too much bone.

All four were removed when I was about 15. I was put under. My wife had hers removed when she was in her 20's. Couple days of pain, but nothing earth-shattering. Go ahead and get it done.

I have been put under more times than I can count. Not a big deal.

Besides, if you die while you have been put under, you won't even notice it, lol.

I made a post on here about my wisdom teeth a while back. Here are my tips:

1. Get a good doctor and dont cheap out too much. It will save you pain/time/hassle. I googled, yelped, everything I could with my doctor. He was awesome and kept contacting me after to see how I was doing.
2. Dont bother getting put to sleep. I did mine with just local and didnt feel a damn thing. The numbing took about 10 minutes, the removal took about 5. It ached a bit afterwards but that was going to happen either way. Only took vicodin for a day.
3. Only do it if you have to.

Before actually doing it, I was scared as fuck and wanted to be put asleep etc etc. Ended up only doing local since putting asleep cost an extra $400. After doing it all, I realized I was scared for nothing.

Your situation sounds rather unique. There typically isn't much choice in oral surgeons. They typically get their own areas because there is a limited number of cases to be operated on. But I guess if you live in a heavily enough populated area and are willing to drive/find someone to drive, you can do it.

5 minutes is REALLY fast for wisdom teeth removal. I considered saving money by just doing local, but got general, and am glad for it. I have no real memories of the procedure. Didn't have to feel the chisel striking my tooth through the vibrations in my head, or the drilling, etc.

I was 22, and also had impacted teeth. The pain wasn't bad, and I didn't take my vicodin, but maybe I should have. I couldn't close my mouth for a long time afterwards due to swelling of the jaw.

I had my upper two removed last year. My experience was similar. Numbing took about 10 minutes. Removal took less than 5 minutes. I took couple Advil for a day.

All 4 were removed by an oral surgeon when I was 16. I was out for the procedure, but none of the teeth were exposed either, so they had to probably do a little digging.

I did have to deal with a dry-socket infection. That was pretty painful - my face blew up on one side and they had to go in and scrape out the inside of one of the extraction sites.

All of mine came in when I was in high school and they never gave me problems. I still have them all. Overall I've been very lucky with my dental health. After high school I went 11 years without a checkup, when I finally went back to a dentist he said I was a "model of dental health." Lucky genetics FTW.

I'm 44 and have had none of them removed. They're not bothering me at all, so why worry about it?

I'm 32 and in the same situation. ! came out though in my mid 20s but the other 3 stays there, immobile and not causing any pain or discomfort. I can't even tell they're there.

I'm 25, still have all mine, fully in. The dentist has been "recommending" that I get them removed since I was 16 or so, but he also said that I had plenty of room and they probably wouldn't be an issue.

The only real issue I have with them is difficulty brushing way back there. Had a few cavities in the past 5 years.

LOLWat.

You only have four wisdom teeth. Or are you some sort of mutant?

Here's one for you. There are cases where your wisdom teeth will grow back after being removed the first time. How's that for suck?

OP: Yup! It was a blast. I was out for the whole thing. Pretty loopy when I came to. Found the paper that I wrote notes to my wife on the way home a couple months later and I couldn't figure out who the hell wrote it until about 10 minutes of reading it, then I was ridiculously embarrassed.

Other than the gum infection I got because I thought it would be okay for me to eat chips about 3 days after... it was nothing. Wish I got them taken out sooner though, then my teeth would be a bit straighter and one of my front teeth probably would never have gotten chipped.

I have all of mine. The dentist gets bitchy when he has to work that far back in my mouth, but fuck 'im. They came in fine, and I'm not getting them pulled unless I have to.

California so there is choice for me. I didnt feel a thing during the surgery. I could hear it but no striking, vibrations, drilling anything.

My molars and wisdom teeth were messed up as a child. Lotta visits to the dentist when I was young. Oral surgery at 2 different Asian orthodontists to take out the 3 wisdom teeth in my mouth when I was in high school. Not painful at all.

i had mine taken out when i was 18
2 partially impacted 2 totally

took them out because i did not have room for them in my mouth. which is generally the reason people have them removed

I guess its an example of the glitches of evolution? Our jaws have gotten smaller but our teeth haven't got the message. Presumably, as long as the extra teeth don't kill off those who have them (thanks to dentistry) we won't evolve to stop getting them?

Think I had mine out when I was 17.

Had all 4 removed when I was 27. Got it done on a Friday. Didn't go under so I was awake during it. Sat in on a conference call on Saturday, went back to work on Monday, never took the pain pills.

Though, mine came in straight. This is why I waited until 27 to get them pulled because my dentist said that there was enough room to keep them so I just left them there. But the back ones on the bottom hadn't emerged fully from the gum, so sometimes food would get stuck under the gum flap and get inflamed. I decided to get all four removed since I was going in there anyway.

Had all four of mine removed a few summers ago. Took them out Friday and I was back to work on Monday.

If you're seriously concerned about complications from anesthesia you can have a local anesthetic applied instead so you never 'go under'. I had local applied and didn't feel a thing. The pain afterwards was moderate at worst personally, mine was managed completely with aspirin.

No, and I likely never will. My last two panoramic x-rays showed picture-perfect alignment and it always felt like they had room to come in, though they're taking their sweet time erupting.

I've had so many dentists tell me to pull my wisdom teeth but i never did anything until I really needed to. I only had one wisdom tooth pulled and that was because it developed an enormous cavity (first wisdom tooth pulled at 32 years of age). Unless they are hurting you or crowding your other teeth, leave them alone. Dentists routinely recommend pulling wisdom teeth so they can line their pockets.

I need mine out soon - it's better to get them out before they become infected.

My dentist always checks them when I go in for a cleaning, and every time he says they're looking good and to just make sure to brush them so they don't decay. I have plenty of room for them and they came in straight so no need to remove them.

My dad never even got any, and my brother got 5 (all removed).
