I'd only go if a hot chick asked me out. Unfortunately there were virtually no asian girls in my H.S. so my chances were down right low. (White chicks don't dig asian guys as much when there are hundreds of other white guys to choose. Durhhh.)
Anyways I did ferry my friends to the restaurant and to the prom. Then hanged out for a hour or two after they got out of prom.

Nope, didn't go. Most of my friends that go didn't like it spent too much money and it was just really lame...

I skipped it for a few reasons. I didn't have the cash handy to rent a tux, and my dad was too tight to lend me some. Plus, I was at a small rural high school where the pickings were slim as far as women that it'd be worth going to the trouble of prom with. Still wished I'd went though, because as I get older I start to regret the fun that I could have had when I was younger.

Too expensive for what it involves. I hate dancing anyway. The only thing that would've made it OK was if I could've gone wasted but they have people looking out for that.

Even if that wasn't the case (with the monitors), it is so much money to spend just to get wasted.

Good point.

I don't regret a thing. Of my friends who went, they said it was nothing special and basically a waste of money.

Umm, you certainly won't regret it. I didn't go... I don't like dancing,. hate "dressing up", and didn't feel like paying for a rididculous limo. Complete waste of time. I am now 24 and been married almost 2 years.. 0 regrets.

yes, it was great. Mainly the afterparties are a greater blast

If you don't go to prom, at least go to some of the afterparties lol

That's actually what I wound up doing, skipping the prom and hitting the after party.

Was going to go since I was asked my a good friend of mine, cute and pretty too...then she got pregnant and cancelled on me because of the emotional rollercoaster she was going through. Didn't bother looking for another date, I never had to when it came to these dances .

None of my friends were going either since most of em dropped out, so my motivation to go was down the drain. Ended up going to the beach with the buddies, had bonfire, got pounded and met a hot friend of a friend that I ended up hookin up with a week later...no regrets at all...saved me some cash too

My parents never really approved of me going out and partying, especially to something like a prom where I'm supposed to take a girl. Theyre from Pakistan, totally different culture, and we are Muslim.

Also, I dont understand how people say its a once in a lifetime event that youll never forget. You just go to a gym and bounce around like sardines because nobody knows how to dance.

No. I didn't even go to my HS graduation ceremony, although I kinda of regret that because some the teachers were real nice to me. What can I say, I just didn't care, at all. My highschool was a little different though considering it was like 90% "minorities" so the culture was weird.

Not always. Some schools (such as mine) have their proms in more upscale places (my school has it done at the Waldrof Astoria in NYC).

I went with my High School sweetheart ... I mainly went to just get closer with her. It didn't work out since she went into the Air Force after HS but I ended up being happy I went, just for the experience of going.

Yes. What a giagantic waste of money. However, the stories that came out of it are classic. Go and waste money like everyone else. You can look back even a year later and laugh at the over-the-topness of it all.

Went to Junior and Senior ones at Universal Studios and LAMC. Looking back, each one cost me less than $200 for everything.

Yeah, i went to both of them. I went w/ a random girl one year and my gf the next. It's not as much fun going w/ a gf because you don't even need to bother asking them or anything. Going w/ a friend is a lot more fun having to do all that.

Yes, I did go. And I do regret it. I didn't think it much fun, but then I was coerced to go by my psychologist, he said it would be "good for me." It was expensive and formal, two things I really don't like. Plus the music had an unsafe concentration of N'Sync and Britney Spears in it.

The $10 all-night senior's party like a week later - MUCH better. It was informal, and held at some indoor tennis court place. We had the whole huge place to ourselves. Decent music, lots more food than at the prom, and good prizes.

Maybe if my prom hadn't sucked I might have enjoyed it slightly.

And to answer the question, "Could you geeks not get a date or something?", well, no actually. I went alone. And left early. Do I regret it? Yeah, I regret having gone to it. It was money and time I could have wasted on something more amusing.

So there, if anything, I might have made you feel better about not having gone.
