I had just moved out of my parents house, was flat broke, and my girlfriend and I decided it was a waste of time, so we didn't go.

We did get sloshed on Cuervo, though.

I went to three when I was in school.

Got asked by senior when I was a sophomore. That one was only fun for the excitement of being my first one. The guy was just a friend and we hung out with mostly his senior friends, not a lot of mine were there, so it was okay, but I didn't have a great time.

My junior year it was more fun because my friends were all there and I liked the guy I went with, but he wouldn't dance and because I was just starting to date him I didn't dance much either and just sat with him instead of enjoying the party with my friends, so it could have been better.

My senior year it was great. I went with a guy I'd been dating for a while and so even though he would only slow dance, I felt comfortable enough with him to dance with my friends and really enjoy our last big get-together before graduation. The after prom stuff was fun too.

And now I've gone to dozens of proms as a teacher and from my experiences as a student and what I've seen as a teacher I've got to say that if any of you guys are seniors in high school and are planning on skipping the prom because you don't have a date or think it will be lame, you should seriously reconsider. If you're a senior you should go to your prom whether you have a date or not because it really is an entirely different atmosphere than just another dance or date.

At some point during the prom all the seniors begin to realize that this time in their lives and the time they've spent together really is all coming to an end. They become nostalgic and sentimental and closer as the evening draws to an end. They go around talking to everyone and taking photos together and do things more as a group. They make some really nice memories that those people telling you they had a blast remember and the kind that those telling you they regret not going now know they deprived themselves of and would have enjoyed.

If you're a senior, go to your prom and enjoy your friends and classmates and say good-bye to them because it will be the last and best time for it.

Nope, no regrets two years on. I just think a lot of things are bs and overrated. I'm an angry person...

second prom was better(was with a friend instead of gf). Hard to believe that was 3-4 years ago...

You definitely got the better looking date

she's quite the cutie. Nice girl. But the other girl is very nice too. She's still dating her prom date you see there.

I don't think Im going to prom this year. I will be going to the after prom party though and win a car or some other prizes. I woulda gone to the prom if I didn't spend all my money doing an engine swap on my CRX. (insert sad face)

I wasn't going to go to mine, but I ended up having four "dates," they were all friends, 3/4 from work, I had a blast.

i'm not a party person so i it would be just a waste of money.

don't try to talk me in now, it's already too late.

EDIT: interesting that the poll is pretty even. could you geeks not get a date or something?

Yes, but IMO it isn't worth it. Put that money towards college "fun".

Only in ATOT do you see people answering NO so much..

I missed my own junior prom. I went to junior prom in my senior year, and I also went to my senior prom.

Back then I wasn't thinking about nailing some girl after the prom or going out and having a great time.

I was anti social and basicly had no significant friends to speak of so nobody asked me to go and I would have felt completely out of place going.

I missed my 2nd prom the same way for the same reasons. Besides my head was elsewhere. I was dreaming of an entry level job in the Canadian Armed Forces and later entering JTF2. I figured I didnt want to make any friends since I would likely be dead inside of a couple of years anyway. Funny how life works out and spins you around before you have a chance to realize your dreams (not of being dead silly I'm just a realist).

I guess it depends on how your time in high school was. Public school for me was a living hell that seemed like it'd never end. Prom and graduation were indications that it finally might end.
So if school wasn't bad for you, then prom might be a good thing. Otherwise, you might just be paying money for a chance to experience more of the nightmare.

And maybe the poll should have had two other options: Went and regretted it, and stayed home and regretted it.

I went my senior year, and I did have a pretty good time. I don't regret going, but I do think it was probably overrated - plus pretty expensive too.
