they get vouchers for like $800-1000 for each car they sell

so if you guys really want to make it big... i suggest car sales!

Biggest factor: New or Used.
Second: Brand
Third: Everything else

I'm a commissioned salesman for Best Buy (Futureshop in Canada) and I make a killing for someone with no sales experience. I did about $4500 in December and $3500 in January working 30 hours a week.

Not HUGE...but I'm 18, and have no sales experience other than the last two months.

As a former salesman and F&I guy I call shens. Cool he bought into the pep talk though. It will help him sell cars.

I made a lot of money but I caught every up I could and had a well established network already. I watched salesman come and go that didn't make sh!t all the while average salesman boasting to them how much money they make which was a lie.

The average salesman sells 8 cars a month banking an average of $300 per car. The median income is actually lower because as in most businesses 10% of the people make 90% of the money.

Edit: The money is there to be made though.
It appears it is 80/20 not 90/10 close enough.........

I am clearly in the wrong business but I would make a terrible sales person.

Customer: Are you sure you have the best price on this?
Me: (fidgeting around) Uhm no not really ... buy.com has it for less, use a coupon, rebate and free shipping. So it will only cost you $29 vs $59 here. Still wanna buy?

Pareto Principle

Basically, 20% of the sales force make 80% of the sales. Then, 20% of that top 20% (or 4% of the total) make 80% of the top 80% of sales (or 64% of the total). If the top guy makes $200k, then the rest of sales staff makes considerably less.

The secret to commissioned sales is getting into a leadership position. Then you get a piece of everybody who works for you's action. Plus you have to still produce on your own.

Its weird...but it doesn't work that way at all where I work...we are pretty non competitive.

Mind you, I'm second in the department, so it may only seem that way.

EDIT: lol, its funny the 80-20 rule...our weekly notes from head office about various specials and stuff are called 80-20 notes

Competition has nothing to do with it. Competence and attitude does. In most any commissioned sales force, the top group are generally positive and happy and making money while the larger bottom group exists in a constant state of (what I call) "misery loves company." Below that is an even larger group of transients who scarcely last longer than 6 months.

Well, competition does where I work. If we have 5 guys on, we need to be on the ball or we won't make any money. Too many guys = no one makes money!

I'm into February now and I'm still making the same money.

January is the slowest month of the year. Look at the money I made. I'm not staying at this job, but questioning that when I've already provided the numbers is silly.

Yeah, I used to sell cars years ago and was a "closer" at a huge dealership... always in the top 3 of sales. I made decent money but I knew the F&I guys made all the bank. I've thought about getting back into it because sales is sort of addictive when you get paid right.
