i definately feel like i had more time during college. between classes, homework, and studying, it didnt quite add up to 40-45 hours a week. and when it did, i could do my studying late at night, and i'd have free time during the day. now i'm working 9am-6pm, i hardly have time to run errands. i end up doing all my stuff during lunch hour cuz places like the bank and post office close at night.

a lot of my friends who are still in school dont seem to understand when i tell them i dont have time to do stuff. they think that after they get jobs, they'll have tons of free time.

what do you guys think? did you have more free time during college or when working?

Technically I have more free time now that I have graduated, but it feels as though I had more while I was in school.

if i worked a straight 8 hour day with a 15 minute commute that would be fine

but 8 hours + 1 hour non paid lunch and a what should be a 25 minute commute becomes an hour each way then basically your day is gone except for the few hours you have to eat dinner and relax before bed

planning on going to a 4x10 schedule to free up an extra day though

You're always at work.

It just appears that way because I work a weird shift.

Definitely back in college, I usually had early classes so I was free by 2 or 3pm. Now, I'm lucky if I leave work by 7pm. :frown:

During college for sure.

During college, I barely did anything, didn't go to class if I didn't feel like it, and had time to do everything.

Now, I am gone for 11 hours of the day working and commuting. By that time, I have to cook, eat (or go to grocery store if I have time), clean up, and then I have about 4 hours to do errands and relax before I get ready to go to bed.

By the time it's the weekend, I just want to sit there and not do anything.

Just working rules. I worked and went to school full time at the same time. It's so nice being done with school.

right on the money... and thats if you are fortunate enough to have only 9 hour days. in my case, im working 9 or 10 hrs a day and then going to grad classes 3 more hours a couple days a week.

but even without that, college STILL has much more free time. work you are obligated 40 hours a week. school, with a full course load, you have to be there for ~15 hours a week - and thast not even mandatory! everyones work habits differ, but excluding major projects or tests i rarely spent more than a couple hours a day doing work (outside of class).

the main difference tho is that with work, when you are done for the day, you are DONE. class always has nagging obligations and no fixed time to get them done (like with work)

edit for more info - AT MY BUSIEST in college (full course load, part time job) 3 or 4 days a week I would be busy from 10 - 10. on an average day at work (including commute and nonsense, im usually busy 7-6), but on the days I have class (or need to do ANYthing after work) the days can stretch to be 7 - 11 very easily. the bright side of it all? more $$$ to enjoy the free time with

TONS more free time in college
thats not even a comparison.
Now Im excluding the job hours I put in while I was in college as College was my JOB and my job was my way of making money in my "Free time" away from my "Job" Make sense?

I'm working 40hrs a week (9-6) then have school from 6:30-8 or 6:30-10:45 depending on the day (15 hours of school)

So I'm banking on having more free time after school is over.

I work 65+ hours a week (two jobs, will start to push up towards 80 as the season gets stronger) Plus I'm going to school full time. I like keeping busy, although when I'm finished with school it will be a nice break.

Well I always worked when I was in college so the time is no different. But now that I just work I don't have to worry about homework and bullsh*tting papers and projects.

Depends.

During college I did a lot of free time activities when I should have been going to class or studying. So for me I had a lot more "free time" back then. I am not sure if this counts or not.
