Did you/ Have you ever serve in the Military?

This is just a question. My dad served as a medical techinician and a martial arts trainer in the Taiwanese military. It was a good experience for him although very harsh.

I have a lot of respect for the military, even when I don't agree with the war. It really straightened out some of my friends. And if it was ever needed, I would serve (maybe as a med technician or intelligence). Preferably Air Force because they treat you well there. But I am not against serving as a regular either.

I am pretty much a pacifist, though. My dad has taught me martial arts, but I always tend to deflect the hits rather than hurt someone else although I could, so I am not sure if the military would want me. But I have the agressive calculating type of mind, too, so who knows (I am brutal when it comes to strategy <chess, wei chi[GO]...>).

No Politics FLAMING, please. This is a geniune question. It would be cool to see your perspective. just got me thinking when I heard some of you guys served in the military.

Added Answer.

Yes, I have, but I probably would have been better off if I hadn't. Then I would have had a decent chance of cashing in on the dot-com boom.

4 years US Air Force was more than enough for me, but I have never been sorry I served and it did pay for my degree. Overall a good experience, just not my thing.

I'm still in the Army Reserves, and served a year in Iraq already. Air Force would be the way to go, for the reason you stated.

If you have a cold, calculating type of mind - you won't be applying it to anything military related =P That job's for the Pentagon.

Currently in the Air Force. I'm a youngun' though, 3 years TIS. I'll be a Staff Sergeant next August though.

Edit - Thus far, I do not regret my decision, and I would do it again if I had to.

Parents (mom really) talked me out of joining. Talked me out of going to Texas A&M and joining the corps there as well. Wish I had joined at times but I'm happy with my life now as well.

That's what I was thinking. I have served, and I'm glad I did for the most part, but I wouldn't exactly call it a "life-changing experience" (at least not in an entirely positive way).

Yeah, I was with the US Army 10th Mountain Division for a few years. Now I'm chillin' and killin' with the Army National Guard. One weekend a month, 2-3 weeks a year rock! Banging college freshman girls on the weekdays. Blowing things up on the weekends.
