Did you know that a Saab 9-5 Aero will go 40-70mph faster than a 911 Turbo?

i find it quite interesting that that is possible since the rev limiter kicks in around 65ish mph.

this is the Aero in 2nd gear, i dunno what gear on the Turbo.

i know of a spot to get the vid but im guessing you have to be logged in, but try it:

here

try around the 7:50 mark of the vid for the quote

if the vid dont work, just take my word for what he said

On the subject, a Fiat will burn a Evo VIII in acceleration....... when both cars are at 30mph and in 5th?

but see, thats not real world. this is real world. you dont use 5th to go from 40-70, you use 2nd if your going for acceleration. and 2nd in the 9-5 (non aero) puts it at about 2k rpm and 40mph. then you get up to around 70 before rev limiter kicks in.

and i believe the 9-5 is speed limited at 155 as is the 911 turbo no?

Gearing and boost levels make the difference.

The 9-5 just plain runs out of puff at 155. The 911 turbo can do about ~190mph.

ive never tried to go that fast. and mine isnt the aero so i dont have the HP that the Aero does, but i do know its a fast lil car. and if only i had money. it would be even faster.

and, is the 911 turbo Speed LIMITED, as in its top speed w/o removing the limiter 155? or what is it

wanna play in the twisties?

Sure, just let me trade in this Honda TL for an S60R.

The present generation (p2) Volvos outhandle the present Saabs, even in FWD form. GM didn't make the advances needed on their Epsilon chassis. They took a few tiny steps forward, whereas Volvo took a huge step forward in rigidity and consistancy with the P2 chassis'.

Now your generation of Saab vs. my Volvo, I think you'd probably take the twisties from me.

yea, iirc the 9-5 is getting a facelift only for this upcoming year, but i think they are replacing the car in a few years. hell i think it will be the shortest stint for ANY saab ever, well, the 9-7x will win that as it is only supposed to be around for 2-3 years.

Volvo and Saab both went a little downhill under American ownership. But now that Volvo is getting heavily involved with racing and motorsports, they're on their way back up. GM seems to be running Saab into the ground though. Saab's been in the red for nearly a decade. You've seen the article where GM is discussing shutting down Saab in 5 years, right?

Stay strong Swedish brother.

No, it doesn't, at least not in this example. Clarkson says "the rate this thing goes in second gear from 40 to 70 mph..."

Now, if he's comparing 2nd gear in the Saab vs 6th in the 911, then the statement would be true.

The Saab aftermarket makes the Volvo aftermarket look huge.
