You can select text, right click and, and then click "search for *selected text* on google" and it will search for whatever you have selected on google in a new tab. Thats awesome! Such a useful feature!

I think that's a google toolbar feature. It also works if you just highlight and click on the Google Search in the toolbar.

I don't know why but I always go to google.ca to do a search when I can just type it in the toolbar. Habit I guess.

try right clicking on a search text-box (say google), and then choosing 'add keyword...' from the dropdown. Name the keyword 'g' for google and from now on when u want to search for something just ctrl+t to get a new tab then type "g ------" : instant search results, w/ no need to open a tab and then go to www.google.com
it works with most all search text boxes- just remember your keywords.... I use say 'd' for dictionary... etc

It's a FF feature. I have it and don't have google toolbar installed.

I heard about this but never bothered using it. Thanks for the reminder it's a cool feature if I remember to use it.

This works for every search engine you add to the "search engine list". The default search engine is Google, you can set it to Live or Yahoo, or Wikipedia and it works. Very useful with wikipedia.

Yes, I've used that for a while. As sciwizam mentioned above, the Windows, right-click context menu will search whichever search engine you have selected.

You can do that in IE7 as well. At least with IE7 pro installed. I'm not sure on a default install.

IE7 Pro, IE8, Chrome and Opera also do this. They also provide a drop down list that is customizable with different search engines. From Wikipedia to Dictionary, not just Google search. FireFox might have an add-on to do this, but it is not standard on Fx.

Opera has been doing these things forever and is the reason why I started using...ahhh... opera 6, besides the ability to surf mouse free? Another nice thing about Opera, when you double click a word to highlight, the context menu automatically pops up. Dunno if FF does that.
