There are a few reasons that will allow me to refute your claims about my sensibilities in buying this card.

1. This is meant not only to be a GPU replacement (and totally happy with it's performance so far after running through the benchmarks) but also for CUDA optimized computation that I didn't quite need a tesla for but other cards that are DP cut just don't cut the mustard

2. Wanted decent performance out of a single GPU

3. This is stage one of my 2013 upgrade, which is the plan for a full system upgrade

So before you guys dump all over my fun, consider that some people take 1k investments seriously and think about them. All in all, I'm happy with my purchase

Whatever floats your boat.

I would have started in a different direction if I had your system and $1000. I'm not you though, so I can't say what should and shouldn't make you happy. Carry on!

I would have also if I didn't have the compute requirements and also with my games hitting vRam caps, I would have started with the cpu and motherboard, but that is next, probably in the summer when my spending money budget grows again

If you don't mind, what are you running that has these compute requirements?

I just killed my Titan SLI...with Skyrim

Skyrim WITHOUT Mods, 3840x2160, 8xSGSSAA forced with 10C1 bits, AO high quality. We need 12GB cards, people...

Haha. But those settings are nuts, not many will want to do that. Wish i could test out my Titans, they are just sitting in their boxes going to waste. :|

I'm pretty sure Afterburner shows double the vram usage when you are running multigpu. I know it did that with my crossfire 7970 setup

Maybe with Kepler? Never once had that problem with Fermi - or even heard of it.

I do believe AMD has had issues reporting actual vram used in the past, but I have no idea how it works now.

Realistically, without so much AA and SGSSAA (none probably), using mods perhaps even a texture randomizers I wonder if you can max that out.

MOH Warfighter has an intersting 'resolutions scale' settings, if you crank it up to 3X, it uses over 4GB of Vram.

Picked mine up this morning. Installed with no drama. Did a quick run in Skyrim and Borderlands 2. Skyrim defaulted to ultra, 60fps and 2300 vram used. HiRes DLC and SMIM are the only mods installed. Old cards, high and 2AA, 1530 vram used. Borderlands seems to run fine with PhysX on high, little slow down, 4fps, when turning quickly. Everything is so much smoother in both games now, no micro-stutter or weird hitches when panning quickly. EVGA 999 special.

If it gets you 15fps while using 5300mb then 6gb was probably overkill. 3-4gb would have been ideal from an economic/balance perspective. You only need to give as much vram as can be used while maintaining at leats 40-50+ fps avg.

15fps, 5.3k vram and skyrim still looks pretty bland to me. Ambient occlusion makes the game shadows way too dark and ruins the look IMO anyway.

It was just a fun try - obviously I would never play this way. 2880x1620, 4xSGSSAA and AO, maybe an ENB is fine with me.

I tried it all and always found AO to ruin the game. Night is too dark, caves impossible to navigate etc. Even with a torch or a spell, still too tough to navigate. Maybe it was just the ENBs, but I messed with the shadows and tweaked everything I could. Still wasn't happy with the look.

I really wish the environments looked a little nicer. Even with all the high resolution textures and all, the trees and other plants look off. Oh well.

Some of the lighting mods do make things really dark, I started using climates of tamriel with brighter settings and project enb and things run great.

Anyway, capping out at around 2.5 GB of vram usage and sitting at around 80% gpu usage (at 1080p) which is about what I expected while using a royal ton of mods and anti aliasing

Also my computer is less of a space heater now which is good

Happy with my purchase. I was afraid that I wouldn't see that much difference going from SLI to a single card. I don't go for high frame rates so as long as I maintain 60 I am pleased. Tried Witcher 2 and it's like watching a movie, no hitches, lags or stutters. And got an update to it when I started it, two new quests in chapter 3 and some bug fixes. Bethesda should take notes, four hours of content for free.
