Still in school, but I fully intend to use my major. Otherwise, I'd have wasted four years. Why do people major in things they can't use???

Because we didn't know what else to major in. Either that or we were high.

college helped me get my job. as for the degree... not really.

if this is a thinly veiled 'convince me that college is a waste of money so i dont have to go' question, then i would tell you that the major itself isnt as important as the degree. a degree shows employers that you can put up with 4 years of sh1t, without walking out on a job like a baby.

its a 4 year degree in dependability, and the statistics show your rewarded with higher pay.

while that may be true for a few minority, there are millions of computer scientists, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, biologists, chemists, physicists, geologists, accountants, etc who neeed to know , and apply directly, what they learned in school

and those people usually rack up the six figures.

Interesting. I majored in Finance but work in HR now. And thank God. Finance is boring. I didn't even have to think there. At least in HR things are always falling apart so I get to spend time doing crisis management. Much more fun.

I used to think that Finance would be something difficult. Bah. A trained chimp can handle the international options and derivatives market. Well, a trained chip that didn't mind working 14-16 hours a day... Without holidays. Man I hated that job. No thought necessary at all, just had to surrender your life. *twitch*

I work for Northrop doing software work, just got hired over the summer. I'd say either of these companies would be quite fun to work for anyone in the computer industry.

what sort of work do they do?

Not sure yet.. but if I become a lawyer, my two undergrad degrees will at least be some what related/relevant.

Hmmm... Geological Sciences with a minor in Environmental Studies... I'm a union organizer... I'm gonna say no.

hey hey hey... don't forget Raytheon!

But yes, ECE in college, now an Electrical Engineer 02 at my company

Can't forget Raytheon. Hadn't seen it mentioned before you had mentioned it. If these companies come to your school take a resume and drop it off to them. I guess you have been out for a couple of years if you are at level 2 now.

A little bit... I work with animals which is what I wanted to do... But I am by no means a 'zoologist'.

Yes, my BS in EE got me my job. And, although my title is Electronics Engineer at my job, I've done virtually no engineering. Just paperwork and computer stuff. But they say that an engineering degree will allow you to go in many directions, so that's cool.
