difference in temps between cores on Q6600

I just installed my new Q6600 (replaced a E4500) and speedfan is showing that cores 0 and 1 are running about 3-4 deg C higher than cores 2 and 3 all the time- either idle or loaded. Is this normal?
That aside it is so much faster encoding video (x264) than the E4500!

I think it's normal, quads have two different two core dies. Right now with Realtemp, my Xeon X3210 Quad is idling at 44, 46, 42, 42

Mine does this too - sometimes a difference of up to 6 or 7 C under load. Reseating the HSF with a bit more arctic silver and an extra turn of the screws helped a little, but not much...

My temps are 40, 40, 37, 38 idle, high 50's under full load (encoding video). I want to OC it by setting the fsb to 333, but I'm a little afraid that the temps will be too high.

Another question- in speedfan there is a voltage reading called VCC1.5v and mine reads .91 v. Any idea what this is and if I need to do anything about it? System runs great with no problems so I'm guessing it is a faulty reading.

This is normal and due to the heatspreader not being even. You can lap your chip and HSF to try and get a more even distribution of heat and lower temps.

My Q9450 @ 3.2
Realtemp readings:

idle: 39/37/35/37
loaded with prime95: 49/48/44/48

Atleast you guys have it good; my Q9300 is off by about 6-7 degrees between cores!

The temp. is as follows:
core|min|max|idle
-----------------
-c0-|42C|51C|44/45
-c1-|42C|51C|44/45
-c2-|37C|45C|38/39
-c3-|37C|45C|38/39

My idle temps are about the same as everyone else's, but my load temps seem higher (high 50's). I have a very well ventilated case with front, rear and side fan blowing right on the MB/cpu.

do you guys have the problem where coretemp reports diff readings from speedfan?

My readings in coretemp and speedfan are the same- MSI P6N SLI 650i board. I do however wonder what some of the other temps are for. I'm guessing that Temp1 is the chipset temp and Temp2 is the power supply... maybe?

Mine seems to be different. As for the other temps, really depends on your mobo. For me, temp1 is overall CPU, temp2/3 are NB and system, can't rem which is which though.

When I run my Q6600 at 333x9 with 1.3625v (min stable) all cores are about 31-32'C idle, less than 1-2'C spread among them. At full load with PRIME95 they get 45/44/42-43/41-42. This is with a TRUE and a silverstone 120 (110cfm).

If you are using an aftermarket cooler check your paste; the first time I mounted my TRUE I was getting nearly 53'C at these settings. I pulled it apart and found only about 65% contact between CPU and HS. I re-applied my AS5 using the double-line method (as opposed to the rice grain method - it didn't spread out far enough to cover my IHS using that one!) I pulled it apart again just to check and using the double line method it spread fully to all 4 edges, dropping my temps to those above.

{Double line method: Apply two [thin] lines in the center approx 2/3 the length of your CPU spaced apart roughly 1/2 the length of your CPU; make sure you spread perpendicular to the cores if using a quad core CPU.}

EDIT: Removed rough sketch, sorry forum doesn't like the amount of spaces in it! It just gets all crunched together and doesn't convey the point at all!

I just spread mine as thin as possible using a credit card. I had to deal with the paste that shipped with the Tuniq. It's really hard to spread...

My Q6600 runs stable at 9x333 default voltage (1.304 cpuz) but still runs hotter than I want. I'll have to try pulling it apart and see if the heatsink is making good contact with the heat spreader. I might try lowering the vcore until it becomes unstable and see what effect that has on the temps. Didn't some of these run at 1.27 or something like that? I just hate taking the hsf on/off with those push pins since it feels like I'm going to crack the MB.
