Difference with adding more than 256 memory

I have a Tbird 800 with a GTS card and 256M memory. I am thinking of adding another 128M RAM to help in gaming etc, is there really a noticiable difference with the extra 128 M ram for my gaming.

i don't think there would be, but i could be wrong. i have 96mb ram, and everything runs smoothly

With that much ram there isn't much difference. But you can make a game use it. I have 512MB (I use Photoshop often), and I always adjust Unreal based games to use 128MB as cache. Its in the advanced options. Esp for Deus Ex and Wheel Of Time, this makes a HUGE difference. So with that extra 128MB, you could do the same, this would make things better for those games.

i've got 256 right now in win2k. I've tried it with the 512 and 768 and well, you might see an improvement in 3dsmax, premier, very very large photoshop files that sort of thing. Or if your computer is a database server, but in games i couldn't see a difference.

I don't think that windows 9x effectively uses more than 256 meg. If you are running win2k then you should definetly consider upgrading

For gaming - no, or *extremely* little. I have 256 and I can't tell the difference when gaming. However, I got it coz I like to stay ahead of the curve a bit when it comes to memory, and I also multitask ALOT, so it comes in handy. Sometimes even 256MB runs out.

I do not think that over 256 in Win 9x would offer much difference, when Whistler comes out, I may get another 256 then, but I am happy with 256 at the moment
