With the recent posts of the deals on this ram this weekend at Best Buy, I noticed some differences on the chips in my local store that I was hoping someone might be able to enlighten me about.

All the chips that I saw have the "MT" on the left side (which I assume means they are Micron chips) and have a "B" on the right side (which apparently stands for cas 2.5). However, the info on the stickers that on the chips vary between some of the chips.

The sticker on the left has the following info:

MT8VDDT3264AG-265B1 PC2100U-25330-A0
US S028WJH 200231N
256MB, DDR, 266MHz, CL2.5
2773-020

-vs-

MT16VDDT3264AG-265B1 PC2100U-25330-B1
MY M00X8GV 200212
256MB, DDR, 266MHz, CL2.5
2772-011

I am thinking that in the second line, the US vs. MY perhaps refers to where the chip was made: the United States vs. possibly Malaysia? Does anyone know if there are any advantages of one of these chips vs. the other?

Also, the Crucial sticker that is on the right of the chip has a few differences as well:

BH11195.M4
MT
200232 CT3264Z265.8T 20616

-vs-

BQ11172.DS
MT
200223 CT3264Z265.16T 16375

Again, do these differences have any significant meanings?

Thanks y'all for any info you can provide - I really appreciate it!

I think that the only significant difference between the two chips is the "8T" on the US chip and the "16T" on the MY one. IMO, this indicates that the former chip has 8 banks of memory, while the latter has 16. In other words, the 8T chip contains 8 256Mbit chips, while the 16T contains 16 128Mbit chips. I would go for the former just for the heck of it, but it really shouldn't make much difference. This is all just guesswork though, I don't actually know for certain that that's what that means. FWIW, both of my 256MB PC2100 Crucial sticks say "16T" and they both work fine @ 143MHz..

Good luck,
Nick

Thanks, Nick! After reading your comments, I looked at the BACK of the memory sticks, and sure enough, the 8T sticks do not have any chips on the back, while the 16T sticks do. I would assume you are correct - the differences would be negligible, however, having fewer chips to pass through (the 8T sticks) should be better/faster. I appreciate the feedback.
