differences PNY & BFG 6800 GT

I'm looking to buy a 6800 GT, but wasn't sure which one to get. I've been seeing a lot of people on forums buying PNY and BFG 6800. So my question is, what are the differences between the two cards and which one should I get?

BFG pre-overclocks their cards and still gives you a warranty. I have also heard that sometimes PNY puts out junky cards. if the price is the same and you have your choice go w/ the BFG.

I'm pretty sure I heard a BFG rep say that for now all the cards are coming straight from NVidia. All the manufacturers like BFG and PNY can do is make cosmetic changes. In BFG's case, they remove the HSF and apply Arctic Silver and then OC the core slightly.

Well dude, I had a BFG 6800 GT OC for a short time and looks like I got a card that somemone else overclocked the crap out of and broke it. Anyways, I returned it and got a PNY because they were all out of BFGs. We'll see how this guy holds up.

Edit: I just opened up my PNY card and it looks EXACTLY like the BFG I had (minus the different stick on the heatsink).

yeah, the prices are exactly the same. hmm, its lookin like BFG is the way to go.

theyre all the same cards, EVGA, PNY, BFG.

i'd just get whichever one you can.

I ordered the eVGA as well. Looks a brand that provides better support and according to the video forum, people are having very good experience with it.

hmm, well the fry's next to me has only PNY and BFG. I would try buyin online, but everywhere on backorder and then they jack the price to 399 anyways. So I figured my best bet was to get it at fry's since they had it instock.

BFG has "true" lifetime warranty while PNY cannot claim the same thing.

if all three are the same price go with the BFG it has the best warrenty and is OCed from the factory. My PNY is great don't get me wrong but it sure doesn't have a good warrenty.

The eVGA comes with a free copy of Farcry, so it would be my second choice.

I thought all 6800GT's came w/ Farcry?

eVGA only offers a 1 yr. warranty....ouch.

Just bought the PNY 6800. I don't think it comes with far cry. Didn't say anything on box about it

All the ones I've seen are $399.99. That's the price of all the GT I've seen at least. It's just harder to come by.

Depends on the company . Most will void the warranty once you raise the clock speeds above what they are when the card leaves the factory.

Yep, same thing with BFG. If you overclock it beyond the 370/1000 speeds it leaves the warehouse, (and it fries), the warranty is void. HOW they figure out it was an overclock that fries it is beyond me....tricky bastards they are.

1) how do you know they apply AS? (not questioning what you say, just curious where you got this
information)
2) if they do apply AS, is it only to the OC versions of the 6800?

I've got the BFG 5900 (stock 400/850) which I've got running nicely at 475/950. I was thinking to apply some AS5 hoping to squeeze it even more, but if it's already on there, then... I'm probaby hitting the performance ceiling.
