I would like to upgrade my current Kodak 3.1 MP camera. My requirements:

4MP or more.
needs to use SD memory cards
price $250 - $350.

Mostly used for snapshot type photography. Zoom is not a major issue, image quality would be biggest factor.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

THanks for the links!

The reason I wanted to stay with SD is because I already own some SD cards.

If I were to take the SD memory out of the requirements, are there any personal recomendations anybody might have?

Thanks!

Yep, reusing the memory makes sense - just don't let it keep you from getting a camera that takes something else if it is an obvious good choice. I picked my Canon Powershot S40 4mp 2 years ago from the CNET reviews and so far it has been a good camera.

I bought an HP Photosmart 3.2 mp for my daughter. It had very mediocre reviews but after rebate it cost me $80!!! I did notice the HP Photosmart 4mp was fairly high on the CNET list. The Canon Powershot S70 is a great buy for a 7 mp camera and is a very similar body style/design as my S40 and top of the list. I think those can be had for around $400 discount which is damn good for a 7mp!!! Yeah, I know you are looking for a 4. 4mp is a good minimum, but I think my next digicam will be a 5 or a 6. Hopefully my Canon will hold up for a couple more years.

I just got a Olympus Stylus 410 last week. So far I am very happy with it.

From my experience, you can't go wrong with a Canon camera. My sister and I gave my mother a Digital Elph S200 a couple of years back. She LOVES it, and it's easy to learn to use (even for a 50+ year old woman). I picked up a PowerShot S30 (used from B&H photo) at the same time. It was a really good camera, which did what I wanted for a time. I recently picked up an Eos 10D camera along with a 28-105 lense and LOVE it... I gave my sister my old PowerShot, which she loves too. I expect she'll keep that camera for many years and use it a lot more than I did (especially with two kids). With my 10D I'm able to take more professional level images than before, which is what I tend to lean towards anyway (which is why I used the S30 so little). Since getting the 10D, I've taken over 200 shots (in under two months), which is more per month than I did with the S30. I think I might have taken 200 shots with the S30 over the ~2 years I owned it.

I would recommend Canon as well. I looked pretty hard at an Elph (S410) and Powershots (S50 and S60) before I went with Olympus. Based on reviews and what some friends that own them have said they are all great cameras. I ended up going with Olympus because they also had great things said about them and the Stylus 410 is one of the few cameras out there with the "weatherproof" feature. I intend to be outside with mine alot (including taking it camping) and thats a BIG selling point with me. If not for that I could just as easily gone with one of those Canon's.

was about to mention steves site as well, I pretty much base my choices from his reviews. Hes been around a long time now. Saddly I would make some suggestions but you seem to be into the no frills snapshot while im dabling in the pro amature realm, so..something like the S1 IS may be a little to much.

The 20D is ~$1500... I picked up the 10D no more than two months ago for under half that. Great camera still and worth thinking about.

How did you manage to get a 10D for less than $750? Did you get lenses with it?
