"Digital noise" thru speakers

With my previous MB, I did not have this problem at all. A few days ago I changed motherboards; now running an Abit IP35-Pro. Nothing else about my system changed. Same cables and related equipment.

I have what can best be described as "digital noise" thru my speakers. A low-volume hum/ticking/crackling. The volume level of the noise does NOT change with lowering/raising the volume; it's always there. It's very fatiguing to have to hear!

The front panel audio jacks from the case are not hooked up.

I've tried changing all the settings. I've changed which rear panel jack I plug the speaker into. I even disabled the optical digital out with no effect.

Again, I did not have this issue with the previous MB (Gigabyte P965-DS3).

Any ideas?

I would tend to agree with you (I'm pretty smart on these things). But the problem is that aside from the MB, nothing has changed. I'm even using the exact same cords and plugs for everything!

I have no other issues. It boots, runs, games, shuts down just fine.

Abit forums might help too. http://forum.uabit.com/forumdisplay.php?f=48&order=desc

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately it didn't help. I turned the gain down on my amp (I run a prosound amp into speakers and a subwoofer) and the noise was muted a little.

Over the past 2 weeks I've gotten used to it...don't really hear it too much anyway. I was just used to absolute silence. Still, I'll deal with this rather than risk dealing with *gasp* a Creative soundcard and drivers *more gasp!* again.

Damn. I bet you're picking up EMI from the inside of the case.

I would try a sound card if you've got one lying around.

A distinct possiblity, yes. It's puzzling b/c the ONLY thing that's changed is the motherboard itself. I 'm using the exact same components, in the exact same positions as before.

Heh, I'm getting ready to get a new case; maybe that will fix it.

I've got a weird buzz too, but it's inside my stereo ? It stops buzzing when I simply pull the powercord. That's what I do before I go to sleep, because sometimes I don't hear it, but sometimes it also annoys the hell out of me ...

Um...any electrical component would stop buzzing when you remove the power cord. No power, no circuits energized, no ouput to speakers. By jove! I think you've solved my problem! I'll just unplug the blasted thing every night!

More info:

What type of speakers? (2.1, 2.1, 4.1, etc.?)
What connector(s) are you using (one green, several due to 5.1 setup, S/PDIF coax, etc.)

I like the previous suggestion (classic troubleshooting). Try headphones or another set of speakers - whatever uses the same connection. If they work, try using your speakers on another rig (laptop or whatever).

I've had a SB live start buzzing and acting up. A good blasting of zero-residue electrical cleaner in the female ports and all over the back of the card did the trick.

I haven't tried headphones yet...probably won't bother.

I changed cases and the noise is still there. Running the green line out jack to the prosound amp to 2 bookshelf monitors and the orange line out jack to a powered subwoofer. The sound is pretty awesome (for a PC setup) and i can barely hear the noise over the case fans' noise. It's most definitely a MB flaw as I used this same audio setup with a different MB and had zero noise.

Oh well, I'll just deal with it until my next MB upgrade which should be in roughly 9 months or so.

Last time i checked, my A8N32-SLI Deluxe's onboard sound had the same sorta issue.
I tried everything i could possibly think of at the time, but couldn't get it to go away

Drove me crazy basically, so i ended up buying a cheapo sound card, & the issue disappeared of course.

I also used an abit IP35 Pro, and not only did it cause the annoying static in the onboard sound, it caused my psu to make whining noises during certain tasks.

i switched it with a gigabyte board.

Strange. I've had nothing but flawless output with my IP35-E. I haven't tried the front panel jack yet, but I did see someone mention in another thread that you don't want the molex pcie plug connected when using the front panel connector.
